Bio
I grew up having to know DOS prompts to play games, they never needed patches/updates and mostly played Lucasarts/Sierra Point n' Click Adventures. Now I play random games for very little time now that my attention span & reflexes are shot for anything new or trendy.

Quite liked this, it’s a bit janky in places, I think there’s too much freedom to go off wandering and it’d probably benefit from being less free roaming.

Loved the narration, it appears to summarise long texts which is helpful as I wasn’t bothered about reading too much. Resources are fairly scant and some puzzles, or houses as I split them by, need some backtracking but if you hit the houses in the right order you’re pretty well set.

One annoying thing, I don’t know if this is a steam deck thing but no achievements unlocked as I played through. And honestly I’m not going to replay it for that. Shame.

It’s a bit like a less polished version of Firewatch and that’s like my favourite narrative game of the last few years so that’s not too much of a put down.

Loved this, it looks cute as a button, but grotesque in some ways, like the art style of characters is a bit creepy.

Simple enough gameplay to get you going with plenty of challenges and taxing bits later on. Most puzzles are straight forward and I never felt like I was grinding in order to get new and better gear. I completed it with mostly decent gear and fully upgraded boat but there was plenty more still to do.which is possible thanks to the game saving just pre end game.

I’d maybe have preferred voice acting but it’s fine as it is and looks like there’s dlc for it too, happy to carry on my wee little journey in my boat 😂👍

For starters, the original was my favourite game of all time. As a point n' click fan of the Lucasarts persuasion I have always been a fan of the story, imagination and dialogue of Tim Schafer's games.

I loved Grim back in 98 and besides a few areas where my P133 and no 3D card really struggled I loved my time in the last of the dead, all four years of it.

Flash forward and this remaster was great news for me, as besides a few possible ways (residualVM now a part of ScummVM) to play it the remaster added some great new 3D models, lighting and redone music from Peter McConnell making it even more accessible by allowing something other than the late 90s relic 'the dreaded tank controls'.

There's still a few technical glitches, strange drops in frame rate and at 5 years since release I don't think these are going to get fixed. But I was still able to play through and the directors commentary adds a lot of fun insights from the creators or the guys who worked on the game.

All in all, one of the best stories in video games with a unique setting and style truly of its own. Couldn't recommend highly enough.
