Errant Signal once drew parallels between Will Wright's idea of orthogonal goals in an online space (a love story in battlefield 1942) and fortnite's block-party hang-with-the-boys rewards system disincentivizing winning over engaging with the game on other, less exclusive goals.

Fall Guys approaches that from an orthogonal direction, looking at how that exclusivity of winning can be emphasized to the point of absurdity. I think this is why some people meditate playing this game and others rage, it plays on your desire to win versus your desire to see really funny/cute shit.

Fascinating piece of game design, thank god they improved the netcode.

if you're bothered by the nomura-isms of this game, play the original again and tell me it's that much better.

this would be a perfect game with slightly more graphical fidelity and a much better translation, alas, its just pretty great
