I went into this basically expecting NES Metroid but with the polish, fluidity, and quality of life improvements that came with Super Metroid. I got that and so much more.

Samus’ movements are noticeably faster than they are in Super Metroid, which leads to a shorter game overall, as I think the maps are fairly close to the same size. Though faster, the controls are not compromised in any way. I especially got great use out of the ledge grab, and being able to lay more than 3 bombs at once (another thing that greatly speeds up exploration and leads to a quicker run time). My only issue was feeling a little cramped trying to use the shoulder buttons on the GBA SP, but it still wasn’t a huge problem.

I have nothing else remotely negative to say. The soundtrack is fantastic and does a great job establishing the atmosphere that this series always has. The last hour or so was some peak video gaming for me and I was grinning like a damn fool by the end of it.
