90s edge and horror fusion. Boomershooter nightmare world filed to a perfect shine. Beautifully ugly. Love this eternally.

Guilty Pleasure

Chuuni-essence boiled down and injected into my brain. I have irrational emotional reactions to vocaloid songs that I could attribute at best to nostalgia. I sometimes cry when I listen to Rolling Girl, and I cry for entirely different reasons listening to 2D Dream Fever. Strong personal connections.

Stressful Game

The game itself, an amalgam of years of fighting game focus into a malformed, broken masterpiece. The game I take most seriously, threaded through the single most toxic, harmful community I consider myself part of. I hate myself for playing it: I love myself for finding it. Stress at failure, at disappointing, at someone finding fault with me.

Game I Always Come Back To

There's something homey about this game. Despite it's Pacific coast setting, the woodsy environments always reminded me of camping trips in northern Michigan during the fall. Wrapped up in a Stephen King impersonation by way of a straightforward Twin Peaks, its a game that feels homey.

Best Artstyle

Consider this a stand-in for the late-90s/early 2000s era of SEGA, especially around the design philosophies of the Dreamcast and the company's forays into the arcade space. The most heart I can imagine, sincerity to the point of embarrassment. Each a love letter to there source, to their influences, to what came before it.

Childhood Game

A sticking point. I've put innumerable hours into this, and I want to say it's given me some deep perspective on arcade-style sports games. But realistically, it's a game with fun gameplay that was easy to convince people in my life to pick up, especially with a soundtrack that influenced my musical tastes for a long-ass time.

I'll fully admit this is less for any narrative or mechanical reason and more... personal feeling. Growth and gains and all that shit. Amazing, wonderful designs and Occasionally A Big Idiot Man. A special feeling to killing Gwyn with no stress and no effort.

Boring choice! Characters stuck with me! Also totally a consolation to the "One-game-per-franchise" rule.

Best Soundtrack

I may be biased based solely on when this game hit me in my life; The OST hits me in a particular way that I have a hard time articulating seriously. Most of my personal favorites are the "easy" picks of the game, "Grandma", "Yonah" and "Ashes of Dreams". Can't pinpoint why this soundtrack has such a strong pull on me, but it does.

You Hate, Everyone Loves

Personifies (teehee) all the most despicable aspects of wider anime fandom, hidden behind some anti-authoritarian, pro-individual veneer. Objectification and mistreatment of minors is horrible, until we do it at the expense of our teenaged party members. Half baked criticisms of society undercut by conservative views of humanity and the world at large. Introductory scumbag gaming.

VIOLENCE GAME. Strongest vibes in the trash-core kusoge scene. Dinoscraps between kaiju deities with objectively bad controls. Beautiful work of stupidity.

Relaxing game

A series I associate with the intense anxiety I felt around conventions and meeting people in general. First and foremost, this game was a defense mechanism, an escape from building stress and fear, but more than anything it became a bridge for me to speak to any number of strangers without feeling a humiliating dread. Zoning out to high intensity drumming with a loud, otaku-pop vibe.

Hours Played

One of my first serious commitments into the time sink that is gaming. 500 plus hours across several accounts. Remembered more for the friendships I made running stupid servers with randos, and subsequently lost, than any strong feelings towards the gameplay. Part of a long list of unhealthy environments for ten-year old Squigglydot. I'll probably never touch it again, and I'm okay with that, but it's impact on my perception of internet communities as a whole is immeasurable.
