At the same time that I feel immersed and instigated in the worldbuilding, where I couldn't stop until I saw the end of the narrative, I felt frustrated and tired. The game design is bad, the combat starts to get boring, side quests that were no important at all, replay the routes was annoying, and a magnificent OST, but which inevitably became cloying. However, there's something this game does differently. It's a story about loss, perspective, and sacrifice told in an immersive and moving way, enhanced by its great main cast and subversive storytelling. It's a game that explores your own creativity to dialogue about human nature, leaving countless questions open, but without creating plot holes. Even with so many flaws and problems, nier replicant managed to make me have an experience that I will not soon forget.

I don't see a problem with linearity, the problem was it the terrible execution. A linearity that kills the essence of Final Fantasy. The exploration is ridiculous, a map in a straight line with no content, the limitation of using two characters to foster the double duality of the plot until chapter 9 and the terrible pacing and winding of it, besides limiting the lore and important details totally to a codex. Total freedom starts from the great and contradictory chapter 11, extremely close to the end. Characters used as plot devices in the worst and anti-climactic way, a narrative that is driven by a confusing and simplistic tone. Despite scenes that could and should be more touching, there are emotional moments as well as good ones shared by the main group. Dynamic gameplay in strategies, but very simple, being limited and becoming repetitive, and a memorable soundtrack. My biggest problem with this game is that I cannot associate it with a Final Fantasy. Lost Odyssey, directed by Sakaguchi and released in the same generation, is a parallel example of what Final Fantasy XIII could be.
