Not NEARLY enough people talk about this game. Now that the sequel is getting praise and is functioning as a proper PS5/Xbox Series S/X title, its predecessor is too getting some well-deserved attention. And I will happily contribute to this.

A Plague Tale: Innocence looks older than it is. Especially in the animation of the mouths corresponding to the dialogue and some traversal motions. That said, that is really the only thing in this game that occasionally threw me out of the experience.

Because, my goodness gracious is this one fantastic game. The setup of the story is quite small. At first glance, it's about survival, centered around the two main characters. Luckily, the narrative is saving the best for last and becomes increasingly more engaging in storytelling.

And I say "survival" for a reason, because holy shit you are vulnerable in this game. Since there is barely any window for error (practically all incoming hits are lethal), it fits well with the game's linearity and relatively low difficulty. All to make sure that the story always has the upper hand. You don't want to complete a certain level, you want Amicia and Hugo to make it.

The way the game's gameplay mechanics keep expanding over its tight 10 hour runtime is nothing short of brilliant. The occasional new element and the cute little crafting system are perfectly dosed.

Go play this game if you like narrative-driven video games.

P.S. Amicia and Hugo, I will return to you as soon as I can manage to get a PS5. Stay strong and take care of each other. I'll see you soon. Lots of love x
