Metroid DREAD is the perfect fifth and final installment to the METROID series. It pays homage to all the systems and legacies of the originals and improves on them. It feels like a natural evolution of those games in the most perfect way, and is a beautiful send-off in every regard.

That being said, its potential is held back, by being the perfect sequel. Don't get me wrong, it is a near masterpiece of a game... But I feel like within all these years, we've seen the Metroid genre grow and expand in exceptional ways, and Dread takes... Virtually none of those ideas. You play the game and you can see its potential behind the curtain... I hope there's a spiritual sequel. A true new story line with the same game engine and risks. Idk. It gets so much right I just wish it could be tweaked to be perfect.

The movement is phenomenal, and addicting, only marred by the times they slow you down intentionally. Combat is smooth and flows very well, leading to you feeling at fault for every death and mistake.

The biggest thing is the pacing and exploration... Feel a bit off. You're getting a new ability every 15 - 30 minutes, just to be rushed to the next boss or ability (or both). And you somehow don't get lost and know exactly where to go (unless you sequence break).

But overall it's an incredible game that I recommend to the hardcore gamers out there. If you see it on sale though for around 25 bucks it would be a steal for anyone to pick up.
