Games YOU want more people to play: comment some suggestions!

When I put this list up, it's not going to have any games on it. Whenever someone comments on this list with a game I haven't played, I'll add it to the list and play it if it seems interesting. I'm always looking for deep cuts or underappreciated classics, so I'm hoping people chime in. Comment as many as you want!

This game clearly sells itself as a pastiche of classic arcade games, but this approach has its downsides. Its mix of Donkey Kong platforming and Pac-Man dot collecting made it feel so familiar that it didn't spark my imagination, which is something kinda necessary for a repetitive arcade game. It's not that there are flaws in the design or anything, it just didn't give me enough reasons to keep coming back. I'm not going to write up a full review since the two hours I played before refunding would be inadequate to publish a fair analysis.

I went into this game expecting something like Umihara Kawase, where your elastic fishing hook has so much nuance that every playthrough will teach you something new. However, Rena's titular grapple doesn't have anywhere near the same amount of potential, and her jumping skill means it's just one part of your toolkit rather than the core. Combined with a very simplistic story aimed at audiences less than half my age, it feels like this was clearly not meant for retro gaming nerds such as myself. It's not a bad game or anything, but I'm so far outside the target market that forcing myself to complete it would have resulted in a pretty unfair analysis.

I have 4 games that I love
-Mega Man Zero 4
-Robotron: 2084
-Missile Command
-Yars' Revenge

Bravely default and bravely second, say anything you want about the plot, but they have the most solid and deep game system i have seen in any jrpg
-Heaven Will Be Mine
-Child of Eden
-Baldr Sky
-La-Mulana

All games I wish I could talk with others more about ;-;

Added these with a few exceptions:
-Mega Man Zero 4, since I played Mega Man Zero 1&2 already, but when I played 3, it was so similar that my interest fell off. So, 3 and 4 are on my list, but I'm waiting until they feel a bit more fresh.
-Heaven Will Be Mine, I completed it once already, but the heavy worldbuilding and sorta abstract tone made me lose the thread. I liked We Know The Devil though, so I'm willing to give this one a bit more attention with a replay.
-La Mulana is a game that fascinates me, but I found it difficult and fairly opaque, so I think I would only try again if someone was there to hold my hand and whisper encouragement in my ear as I got repeatedly devoured by snakes.

Thank you all for the tips, really happy that people are chiming in with things I hadn't considered!

ys origin is, i think, the most exemplary isometric ARPG out there and it's a hallmark of very traditional game design. for most of us, the games we're extremely fond of have caveats. "oh, i didnt think this mechanic gelled super well in the context of the games systems"; "oh, i love this game, but i HATE this bit!" what makes ys origin impressive imo is that it's a game so utterly focused on forward momentum that it completely does away with any of that kind of friction. there is not a single moment of the game i can reflect on and think "i did not enjoy this". the rogues gallery of boss battles is without fault and the pacing of the game is perfect on a level not seen since RE4. it has a hall-of-fame soundtrack. its approach to three narratives layering on top of each other is far more well-considered than most will give it credit and it does something that only DMC3 does before it: exist as a prequel that imbues genuine pathos to a very traditional adventure game narrative. also, it has yunica tovah, and any game that has that character can't be awarded less than five stars; it earned its place in my bracket on far more traditionally mechanical terms than anything else in there. truly the platonic ideal of a game

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, Eat Girl and Annalynn are some of my favorite modern Pac-Man and similar games. CE2 is some of the most intense Pac-Man gameplay I've seen in a while, Eat Girl manages to be more about a progression and about momentum, secrets and very light horror undertones using the basic Pac-Man formula, and Annalynn is just cute, wearing its arcade influences proudly on its sleeves. I couldn't recommend the three of them enough.

On the topic of arcade games, if you ever have five minutes to kill, I'd recommend Motos, Mr. Driller and Metro-Cross; all of these can be emulated through MAME, and Mr. Driller in particular has a few sequels, including Drill Land, which was ported to modern platforms including Steam.

Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (For the Frog the Bell Tolls) is a short and simple Game Boy game that initially presents itself as a tiny bit of a play on games like Zelda, but focuses much more on side-scrolling, light puzzle solving and a charming, if simple story all set to a great soundtrack by Kazumi Totaka (Super Mario Land 2, Yoshi's Story).
It's heavily rumored to be influential to the development of Link's Awakening, so if you like any of the games I've listed in this description, I'd say it's worth a look!

Another game composed by Totaka, Virtual Boy Wario Land has some of my favorite pixel art found in 2D platformers, and is my favorite game in the Wario Land series. The power-up system takes a bit of time to get used to, but I think this is a really solid game.

I'll second BeachEpisode and say Donkey Kong on Game Boy is pretty solid!

I wouldn't actually recommend playing de Blob, but its soundtrack is worth a listen in my opinion, as is its sequel's.

Oh, and Megaman Sprite Game is a h*cking good time if you like your JRPGs a bit absurd, less serious and more about the journey than the destination sometimes. I'm looking forward to Amazing Treasure Valley, a game that MMSG's developer is working on.

-"Yume Nikki" is more of an experience than a game, but everyone who plays it manages to walk away with something. A surreal atmosphere and powerful imagery that sticks with you years after you've played it, all the more impressive due to the fact there's no dialogue or real characters. It's all about the vibes man.
-"Hylics 2" is genuinely one of the most visually unique games in recent memory, combining claymation and prog. rock to create a world that's, if nothing else, incredibly interesting to explore.
-"Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R" (what a mouthful!) is a certified Rad as Hell™ anime fighting game that's easily accessible while also having incredibly in-depth mechanics, as well as a ton of single-player content to sink your teeth into, and the best online this side of the FGC.

-The Banner Saga Trilogy: A trilogy of crowdfunded srpgs that did the "your choices matter" thing way better than any other game I've ever played. Plus, it has a style inspired by Eyvind Earle and other 50s-era disney artists. It's very beautiful and the story is so well written. There's a collection of all three of them that's out so you don't need to buy them all individually anymore.
-The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories: A wonderful game from SWERY before he completely gave up on trying to distance himself from the title he's received of "The Tommy Wiseau of video games". It's genuinely one of the most well-designed well-paced games I've ever played, and it also makes me cry like no other game has :)
-Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War: An srpg that makes you actually feel like you're going on a crusade. Unlike any other srpg I've played, its maps are huge and have you slowly conquering from one castle to another, it's a highly underrated entry in the Fire Emblem series.
-Ken Follett's: The Pillars of the Earth: An adaptation of the book of the same name, it's a point-and-click adventure where you can make decisions that change the course of the narrative, but most importantly, it's just very pretty. It's animation technique is by far the most successful I've ever seen at masking 3d animation as 2d animation.
-Rogue Galaxy: A genuinely amazingly produced ps2 action rpg that by all right should have been a huge classic. It has heart, design, and so much production value. It's made by Level-5, and despite being much better than Dark Cloud imo, it hasn't gained nearly as much of a cult following as Dark Cloud

Yomawari: The Long Night Collection
I haven't heard much about it besides one video and I think they're great horror games

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story - A pretty unknown game, but at the least until I finish Trails SC (which might push against it) this is my favorite game, it's a pretty fun GBA Action RPG that has hella aesthetic. As a note, you can choose both the main character and their partner character (via a personality test) in this game: I highly recommend the female main character (Pratty) and Sugar as the partner. I will note most people would probably not be so crazy over this game, but I love it, so!

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC - I can't vouch for The Third yet but I've played both of these and they're both some of my favorite RPGs for all time thanks to the insane levels of worldbuilding to go with an intricate, thought out story and wonderful characterization. It has a great battle system, too. Probably the best games I'm recommending.

Touhou Seirensen ~ Undefined Fantastic Object - I really love touhou, so I figured it would be best to recommend my favorite traditional Touhou game, though it might have been better to recommend an earlier or easier one. But I really like the UFO system, so.

Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue - I played the N64 version IDK if there's version differences, but I'm putting it here because it isn't a game I get to talk about much but I rather enjoyed and messed around with a loooot as a kid. It's shockingly good for this kind of liscensed platformer.

LEGO Racers - The first video game I ever owned and it's a fun, quick kart racer to get into. It's a fun little time.

Monopoly Tycoon - I feel like 98% of people have probably never heard about this, but it's a pretty cool...competitive strategy simulation game, I guess? I wish I could get online to work with this, because I think it'd be fun to see how it works with people and not just AI.

Tales of the Abyss - Very fascinating story, strong villain and main protagonist, I've always found this game extremely memorable.

Star Trek: Armada - IDK if this will be interesting unless you're a Star Trek fan, but it is a somewhat unique feeling RTS game with a pretty good story mode, I always enjoyed playing this one and if you're into Star Trek it's got a lot of fun little things.

No More Heroes - I haven't finished this one yet, I'm in the middle of playing it, but I've often had a fondness for it (I purchased it ASAP when I saw it come to Switch) and it feels like such a unique game that it is worth a look.

You know what I'll just add one more for a very goofy reason: Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. Because my name comes from Roy via Smash Bros and so my name comes from The Binding Blade and therefor it's fun to see it pop up.

Grapple Force Rena and Petal Crash, two games by the same developer. The first is a great grapple hook-based 2D platformer with not only a lot of really creative level design and fun movement, but also a really fun cast of characters and character design. Petal Crash is a super fun tile-based puzzle game that I bet a lot of people would love if they got the chance to play it, and also has some very genuinely touching character stories, great dialogue, and fantastic character design. Love these games and I really want them to have a wider audience.

- Mega Man 10. If you play it, I consider it to be de designed more around Proto Man (Blues) than the main character. With him feels boring.
- Mega Man & Bass (SNES). Both characters are good to play, but I really prefer Mega Man over Bass. Every power feels earned when you get them.
- The Legend of Zelda. Pure adventure.
- Ristar. Overlooked but really enchanting.
- Emily is Away. In this game I made the best decision I've ever done while playing a game. Can't say that about any other one.
- Three Fourths Home. Playing it twice is better I think.
- Kid Dracula (GB). I've played a bunch of Game Boy games and for now Konami is among my favourites that have developed for it. I'm in the minority, but I like Castlevania: The Adventure a lot too.
- Final Fantasy V (SNES). Tough JRPG, but I feel like the story fits with that toughness. Galuf is the best character.
- Iconoclasts. Loved it.
- Earthbound
- Mother 3
- Virtual Boy's Wario Land. Good platformer.

- Rygar: The Battle of Argus
- Vampyr
- Epic Mickey
- Terranigma

I will suggest Magical Pop'n for the Super Famicom and Madou Monogatari I for the Game Gear.

I've been on a Sega kick lately so I'll throw my hat in the ring and recommend Crazy Taxi, Super Monkey Ball, and F-Zero GX (I know F-Zero wasn't published by Sega but it was directed by the same man behind Super Monkey Ball so I'll throw it in there)

I second Crazy Taxi and throw in Urban Reign as a PS2 multiplayer game that is unjustly obscure
