This dlc reaffirms what I said many months ago

Outer wilds is one of the greatest games ever made, dare I say one of the greatest pieces of art ever made, and echoes of the eye is probably the single greatest DLC for any game, right up there with Bloodborne’s old hunters dlc.

The stranger is such a cool location, the horror bits build greatly upon the dark bramble concept from the base game, the visual storytelling used here as opposed to the text based storytelling of the game is phenomenal, and despite its many horrors, it has a very wholesome ending and even adds some more wholesomeness to the main game’s ending.

If you loved outer wilds, obviously play this, part of me wishes I just played this with the base game but alas, I didn’t.

It’s pretty good, but holy fuck wait for a sale if you’re interested in playing it

I am just………speechless

RGG has outdone themselves yet again, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for them

Has some problems, don’t particularly like the Ubisoft open world structure this game uses, and while the story is phenomenal, some parts do go a bit too fast

But otherwise, it’s a beautiful game

And with that, I’ve played every fromsoftware souls game

Despite being a 2009 game, this game actually holds up well…………..mostly

You know it’s been a damn good year for video games when the weakest game (that I’ve played so far) from the GOTY nominees is still absolutely fantastic, spectacular even.

Santa Monica, you absolutely spoil us

A free dlc that’s longer than this year’s COD campaign

God damn yakuza

Making me tear up beyond belief

Well, didn’t think that the Mario game announced three months ago would become my personal GOTY

I mean seriously, it’s not TOTK which had me hyped for it all the way back in 2019, it’s not the RE4 remake which felt like the absolute culmination of all the lessons capcom learned with modern RE, it’s not even Pikmin 4 which was a whole 10 year wait, nope, it’s the 2D Mario game that was shown at the end of June’s Nintendo direct.
Super Mario Bros Wonder is an absolute joyful blast from beginning to end, I enjoyed it so much that I got 100% completion on it, which has never really happened with a 2D Mario game before, not even the best of those ones had me gunning for 100% like this one did, I just had so much fun with it.

Before I get into the part where I gush over everything I loved, I’ll just get my minimal amount of complaints out of the way, my biggest problem, in fact a problem I have with literally every 2D Mario game, is the bosses. The bosses in this game are very lackluster, there’s like 8 total and 4 of them are Bowser Jr., though I’ll say this, that first fight with him was pretty good, set my expectations for a good boss lineup, until they did the boss again, and again, and again, sure it’s different arenas but the boss phases and moves are completely the same each time, but you may be asking how are the other 4 bosses? Well 3 of them are this stupid fucking machine inside the airship levels that are even worse than Bowser Jr. since they’re legitimately baby mode easy, you jump on a conveyer belt for like 5 seconds and press a button and that’s it, that leaves one boss, the final boss, which is the game’s best boss by far, in fact I think it’s incredible, it’s not hard but it’s a super satisfying and nice boss to end the game on, if I was younger I’d probably actually struggle on the boss. There’s also the mini bosses sometimes found in the wonder flower sections and I will say, these are a lot better than the main bosses (excluding the final one of course).
I’ll say this, that’s really my only complaint, and even then it’s not that big of a deal to me, Mario games aren’t really about the bosses, the only other thing I would complain about is the difficulty but even then they scratch that difficulty itch of mine with the later levels.

Now let’s move on to me gushing about this game……….I FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME.
Seriously, the word “wonder” doesn’t do this game justice, it goes far beyond that, the gameplay is extremely satisfying and fluid, the animations for everything in this game is incredible, the art style is incredible, the levels are all fantastic, the absolute variety in this game is crazy, it feels like Nintendo actually listened to the problems people had with the NSMB games, cause this completely blows away those games, hell, in my opinion it blows away those older 2D Mario games like 3 and World, I had so much fucking fun man.

The controls in this game are fantastic, they’re super tight and just all around very fun, and it’s definitely helped by the fact that the animations are so much better than in the NSMB games, you can see Mario’s (or whatever character you play as) facial expressions change with your movements, they’re not just stiff pieces of cardboard like the NSMB games, there is actual personality here.

The levels and worlds are also incredible, they kinda took the tropical freeze method of making worlds, where each one is actually unique and not just the “plains, desert, ice, jungle, lava, etc.” way of doing it, even with the worlds that have something similar to that generic world theme, the levels in there are so different form each other that it always feels unique. Every level in the game is fantastic, about like 95% of them feel unique from one another, having different enemies and some different level mechanics, each brought something new, and luckily the levels never go on for too long. A big thing I can compliment is that literally any time before where the level would start to become potentially, they always bring the wonder flower in by that point, which is when all hell fucking breaks loose, you never know what you’re gonna get with the wonder flowers, piranha plants singing? A hard platforming challenge? King Boo singing opera? Fucking anything, it’s so fun since you have no idea what’s really gonna happen when you grab them.
My personal favorite wonder flower parts are the music ones, like the aforementioned piranha plant singing and king boo opera, as well as levels like the Halloween one, the platforming one with the multi colored blocks, and Bowser’s rage stage, which is an incredible level to end the game on.
There’s also the special world levels which ehehehe, difficulty jump, I love how challenging these levels are, each take the general parts in its world’s levels and make a challenge out of them, culminating in the final song level with the return of the singing piranha plants, the final level that is a great platforming challenge, and the final final level which is a gauntlet of the badges used in the game to their fullest, it’s all so good.

Dude, the fucking art style and animation, FINALLY A 2D MARIO GAME THAT ACTUALLY LOOKS UNIQUE, everything is just absolutely full of life, I love it, the art style itself pops out so much and is always so beautiful to look at, helped even more by the animations in the game, they finally made actual animations for the characters doing stuff, Mario doesn’t just stay still when he goes down pipes, he enters and exits them like he’s actually entering and exiting a giant green pipe, none of the enemies just statically walk into you, they have little animations where they react to your presence and attack in some way, everything is just so much more detailed and vibrant, it’s all so fucking good.

Yeah, overall this game is wonderful, I didn’t even talk about everything, it’s all just phenomenal, easily one of the best Mario games out there and my personal GOTY.

Well, back to the fnaf playthrough

Took a tiny break cause I just got Lies of P, but now I’m back to this

Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, I must say I was hoping on this replay that I would appreciate this game more, I thought it was mid when I first played it back then, but maybe I was just young and dumb, and that’d I’d like it more now………..that is not the case.
Don’t get me wrong there’s a lot of good stuff, but it’s all tied together with some very boring elements that just make this game very eh.

I’ll start with my positives, firstly the lore, I love what this game added to the series in terms of lore, tying a lot of things set up in the previous games together, like the five murdered children being put to rest, or the puppet’s goal of freeing the children, and of course, this game finally brings William Afton into the spotlight, featuring him as the game’s main antagonist.
Speaking of William Afton, Springtrap, easily the best designed animatronic in the series, I love how creepy he looks, all the details like how decayed the suit is and the corpse spread around throughout the suit, it’s a phenomenal design, makes him feel like a true monster, like this is what the five children basically saw him as when he killed them.
This game looks ugly, but it’s definitely intentional, Fazbear’s fright is rundown as shit, and it adds to the atmosphere a lot, the shitty cameras also help build that unease………..if only the rest of the game did that.

Ok now the bad, gameplay is fucking boring, a lot of the scare factor from the previous two games is gone, instead replaced with 8000 phantom jumpscares that are seen so many god damn times throughout the nights, none of the jumpscares are scary especially Springtrap’s one.
I like the ideas this game has, the phantoms are a cool idea and having to keep one animatronic away is neat, but I just don’t think the game capitalizes on it well at all.
The whole reboot system with the ventilation, audio, and cameras is again a neat idea, but just not really used all that well in execution.

Overall this game is a big downgrade from 2, but I do know that there are some good games coming ahead.

Onto FNAF 4

Two games in and we’ve already potentially hit the peak of the series

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is a fantastic follow up to the first game, the game is more challenging, more varied, more tense, and overall just more fun to play, while also greatly expanding the lore of the series and just all around giving people a really damn good experience.

Let’s start off with the general gameplay, and this time there’s a hell of a lot more to it, you’re far more vulnerable this time thanks to the fact that there are no doors, and your only means of protection is a Freddy mask, but luckily the Freddy mask makes the animatronics confuse you for one of their own, so I guess you can just wear it the whole night………one problem though, foxy, he can see right through your disguise and will kill you even with the mask on, so you have to flash the flashlight on him a bunch of times to make him go away, so now you’re thinking “ok, just a little hurdle, but I can still stay in the mask most of the time” yeah no, that’s where the music box comes in, you gotta go on your camera and wind this music box up a bunch, this leaves you vulnerable on the cameras and can lead to many deaths either from a surprise animatronic appearance or the puppet coming out herself.
Another thing this game does expertly is the sound design, listening out for an animatronic entering the vents or the hallways, hearing how close balloon boy or mangle are by their audio cues, it’s all used very well and adds another layer of strategy to the game.
All this feeds into a great gameplay loop that doesn’t really overstay its welcome, and it leads to a pretty tense and scary experience, I’ll still admit that the jumpscares themselves are goofy, the atmosphere succeeds in making you feel fear, so thankfully the jumpscares can be kinda excused.

Now let’s talk about some lore, this game greatly expands it with some reveals and answers for the first game’s questions, but also adding more mysteries for us to solve, firstly this game marks the very first appearance of the one, the only, William Afton, known only right now as the purple guy, murderer of the children, the death mini games each help to emphasize the tragedy of Freddy Fazbear’s pizzeria and the absolute monster Afton is, in one mini game he kills a girl who would later possess the puppet and put the five children’s souls into the animatronics, in another you can see Afton watching foxy run to the dead kids, in anther he can very rarely pop up and dismantle Freddy, it’s a great way of setting him up, I’ll say for now he’s a phenomenal antagonist.
This game also shows what we can only say was a theory in the last game, that being the children’s souls possessing the animatronics, we now know why they attack, cause they mistake you for Afton.
I love how the lore is built up in this game, and with how much build up Afton is getting, I feel he’s soon going to take center stage in a game……….wink wink nudge nudge

Overall, FNAF 2 is a fantastic entry in this series, building and expanding everything almost perfectly compared to the first game.
Now onto FNAF 3

Hello everyone, throughout the month of October I will be playing the five nights a Freddy’s series, well, at least most of the games in particular I’ll be playing FNAF 1, 2, 3, 4, SL, Pizzeria Simulator, UCS, Help Wanted, Security Breach, and it’s DLC Ruin.
Of course I’m doing this to prepare for the movie coming out at the end of the month.
This is a franchise I’m highly nostalgic for, so expect the early game’s scores to be higher than you’d probably expect.

Five Night at Freddy’s, an absolute juggernaut in the video game industry, and the industry in general, I mean seriously, this one simple indie horror game that Scott Cawthon made because people told him his previous games looked too uncanny is now a gigantic franchise with a multitude of sequels, a full triple A release, multiple books, tons of merchandise, and the long LONG awaited film that’s coming
out very soon.
The franchise has changed so much throughout the years, from horror focused with a light touch of lore, to the lore becoming the forefront of the series, to the many meta things this series put in, and uh, shit I don’t even know where it’s at now………all that said, going back to the original game is kind of a delight, and let me explain why.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 1 is a simple yet very effective horror game, it builds tension thanks to the atmosphere of the dark pizzeria, the very fuzzy video quality on the cameras, and of course the animatronics, after seeing some of the absolutely crazy and messy designs that would come later for the animatronics, it’s just really nice to have such simple and nice designs in this entry, they’re big robots with a lot of details and features but they never go overboard, Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica are similar to one another with their general body shape, but all each have individual colors and accessories that make them stand out, you can see how they realistically could be stage performers for children’s birthdays, but also see them as scary monsters when in the dark, they’re very nicely designed. Foxy though, he’s my favorite design in this game, all the holes in him, the pirate design and the overall aggressiveness of it, it’s really effective. Finally there’s Golden Freddy, obviously same compliments I can give to the Freddy design, but with the added bonus of a creepy pose and very small dot eyes, it’s very cool how such a minor character in this game ended up being a big player in the series later on.

All this stuff obviously culminates in the gameplay, y’all know what the gameplay in this game is at this point, two entrances to your office that you must check regularly with lights and close whenever an animatronic appears or is coming, and a camera that views the whole restaurant, each animatronic does their own thing, Bonnie goes down to the left side of the hall to enter your office, same with chica but on the right side, they’re the most simple to take care of, Freddy moves past night 3 and the only way to track him is to look through the cameras to locate him and to listen for his laughs, finally there’s foxy who only remains in his original camera, you must consistently check on him or else he’ll leave and come down the hall and jumpscare you, all of this needs to be done while conserving power over an in game 6 hour period, and I think it’s pretty decently scary, sure the jumpscares don’t really scare you once you can figure out when they happen, but I think the rest of the stuff like the general atmosphere and sound design helps in giving you a feeling of dread.

And finally, there’s the story, and for how obviously well known this franchise is for its complicated story, here it’s super simple, you’re a night guard who’s hired to watch over a pizzeria while a guy on the phone calls you and tells you what to do, the only really big twist you get in the main game is learning that the calls from the phone guy are all just recordings and he’s actually just been dead the whole time……….but of course, there’s more stuff hidden deeper, thanks to some little Easter eggs hidden around the pizzeria, you find out that five children were murdered and their bodies can’t be found, and also there’s this “bite of 87” thing that the phone guy mentions.
I think the way this game builds the dark lore is great, gives you just enough to connect the dots like with the dead children and the odor of the animatronics, while also leaving some mysteries like the bite of 87 and the mysterious man who murdered all the children………hmph, guess we’ll never know what these are am I right insert laugh track here.

Well, that’s really it for the first game, obviously there isn’t too much going on here cause the big things this franchise is known for starting coming in at later entries, but this game made the foundation on which all these games built off of, it may not have too much importance on the overall lore, but it is a very important game to the franchise and a decent amount of people growing up in the 2010s

Well, onto FNAF 2

This review contains spoilers

…….Wow

Outer Wilds is beautiful, plain and simple, it is a one of a kind experience that you truly can’t get in any other piece of media out there………and I absolutely love it.

Before I say anything else though, let me make one thing clear, PLAY THIS GAME BEFORE YOU READ ANY REVIEWS, the less you know, the better it is, come back here and read once you’re done

This is a game that truly does not tell you anything, other games elude to this idea, but most of them do have something that clues you in, even the soulsborne series has some general pointers and some sort of indicators on where you should go.
This game doesn’t even have that, it lets the player discover things completely on their own, it lets us go do anything on our own accord, want to go to those two planets circling closest to the sun? Go for it, want to go to the planet with a black hole in the center, sure why not? Want to go to the giant green planet with tornados and a massive ocean, do it! Want to go to hell, oh I’m sorry, I mean Dark Bramble, why not? It goes so far with not telling you anything that the game doesn’t even tell you about the supernova that occurs every 22 minutes…………WAIT WHAT. dies in a blinding blue light

………….wakes up huh, that’s neat, I guess this brings me around to the time loop mechanic, which I think is very well utilized, 22 minutes doesn’t sound like a lot, shit it’s the amount of time it takes me to get up and get coffee in the morning, so I can only imagine what our 4 eyed buddy has to go through when searching for ancient artifacts of a long dead civilization.
However, despite how short it sounds, it’s almost always enough time to do things in the game, much like Majora’s Mask, every loop basically forces you to make a plan to explore something, whether that be the hanging city in Brittle Hollow, the quantum training tower thing on Giant’s Deep, the sunless city on the ember twin, there’s a lot to do and you most plan accordingly, of course your first few loops, you’ll have no idea what you should do, hell most of my early loops were either me careening into the sun on accident, me crashing into planets at a very fast speed, or falling into brittle hollow’s black hole over and over again, but no matter what happens to you, you learn, you learn how to avoid the sun and careen into it, you navigate around the black hole in brittle hollow, you learn that you should STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM GIANT’S DEEP AND ESPECIALLY DARK BRAMBLE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME, and a lot of other lessons, skills and smart thinking are what you’ll need in order to explore this solar system…….ah, a nice bright day out isn’t it……………wait, it’s the evening, why is it bright our?……….OH SHIT dies again in a blinding blue light

…………wakes up WHATAHAT………very odd, very odd indeed, anyways, speaking of the solar system, let’s talk about it, the game’s separate planets and worlds are just perfect, holy shit I love each of these places, each one serves a vital role in the game’s story and role, and it makes use of all of them, the hourglass twin planets are fantastic, I love the rising sand mechanic on ember, and the uncovering of ash that happens throughout the current cycle, Timber Hearth is a cozy little starting area, it’s a nice little planet that still has plenty of secrets to uncover, brittle hollow is a very interesting planet, the discovery of the planet slowly falling apart as the cycle goes on, it’s very cool, and that’s just the beginning, there’s so much to explore underneath the surface, and I’ll just leave that discovery to you all, Giant’s Deep is probably my favorite of all the planets, a planet that’s 80% ocean, 20% land, 1000% tornadoes, visually it’s just gigantic, completely daunting, but you start to pull back the layers and see more, whether that be the islands that frequently launch into space, the tower hidden in the planet’s largest tornado, or the cannon hidden in its core, you certainly have a lot on your plate in this place…………..and finally there’s Dark Bramble.
Dark fucking Bramble, I love this place but I also hate it, it’s a fucking terrifying planet, like giant’s deep is scary at first but then the fear kinda goes away, but with Dark Bramble, nah, fear is constant here, why is it terrifying, I’ll tell you, out of every place in the ENTIRE (base) GAME, this is the only one that has enemies, not just any enemies, giant fucking anglerfish, let me tell you about the anglerfish, they hide very easily with the lights emitting off the nose entrances, so you never see one until it’s too late, and once you’re near them, let me tell you even more, they’re 1. Bigger than you and your ship, 2. Faster than you and your ship, and 3. Can very easily swallow you and your ship whole, leading to instant death…….but they do have one weakness, they can’t see shit, so just be quiet around them……….Dark Bramble is fucking scary and it is a great addition to the solar system.
There are other small things too, the sun station is a cool lore place and pretty terrifying being that close to the sun, the interloper is in the grand scheme of the game’s story, completely optional, but it does show how the nomai ultimately went extinct so that’s cool, another completely optional thing that I only realized was optional after beating the game was the Quantum Moon, a moon that teleports around the various planets in the solar system, and served as a trial for the nomai to go through, you can barely count it as optional considering how much the wall tablets mention it, so naturally you’d become morbidly interested in it like me………..dies again in a blinding blue light

………..wakes up I BARELY EVEN SAW THAT ONE……………anyway, I guess I’ll get into major spoilers now, I recommend really clicking off, there’s been a spoiler here and there but I’ll be talking about the deeper lore and the game’s finale, so click off now.
This game’s lore is fantastic, the story of the nomai is super captivating and phenomenally told, basically these guys came to the universe seeking refuge and after a thing later dubbed the “eye of the universe” had called out to them, however their Vessel ended up crashing into Dark Bramble, as it was going in, three escape pods launched out, one landing in a different node of Dark Bramble, another landing on Ember Twin, the last one landing on Brittle Hollow, the nomai on the Dark Bramble escape pod eventually perished, but the other two pods of people flourished, making multiple things in an attempt to reach the eye of the universe, stuff like the ash twin project, the black hole forge, the probe cannon, the sun station, and many other things.
Through the writings left behind by the nomai, you learn about what they built, their dreams of reaching the eye of the universe, and ultimately finding out why they were drawn here……….however failure struck them multiple times, the ash twin project and sun station were a dud since the sun couldn’t be manually supernova’d, and that made the ash twin project basically useless to them, and alas, they ended up meeting their end when the comet dubbed “The Interloper” came into the solar system, and when they tried to explore it, it ended up releasing ghost matter across the solar system, and wiped them out.
But, ultimately with all their information at hand, you push through, ultimately putting the pieces together where the nomai couldn’t, and you find out that with the warp core of the ash twin project, the coordinates inside the probe cannon, and the power of the vessel deep in Dark Bramble, you finally learn the way to the eye of the universe.
Now here’s my experience with my final loop of the game, I rushed over to Ash Twin to get into the project and get the warp core, after several minutes of waiting, I got into the project and took the core out, once I got back to my ship, a triumphant mix of the time loop near end theme started playing, with that burst of motivation from the song, I quickly flew to Dark Bramble, said fuck it and went straight into the nest node without even marking the vessel location, after a very close call with the anglerfish, I made it to the vessel, put the core and the coordinates in, and was taken to the eye of the universe……….I get off the vessel and go to the eye’s surface, and………..what’s that blue light in the distance? OH SHIT THE SUPERNO—………oh wait, that ain’t reaching me now, HAH!
I continue on into the darkness, I will say that along with the discovery of the anglerfish and the first time entering the quantum moon, this is one of the most ominous parts of the game, but I push through and fall into the giant………hole? I think, in the sky, leading me to what I think is the insides of the eye…………then I’m transported out of the universe…….or am I? Cause next thing you know, you’re in a forest…….you end up exploring a bit until a campfire appears, and one of your friends along with it, you explore the area more and get more of your friends to join around the campfire, once all are there, a song is played, which creates this……..uh, circular vortex? Which then blasts you and your friends far away, and after a bit of silence and pitch blackness………BOOOM, a Big Bang basically happens.
Over 14 billion years later, it shows a new solar system forming, and with that, the game ends.

Ah……it’s simply wonderful, Outer Wilds is a one of a kind experience, I didn’t even talk about everything I adored, the game’s art style is beautiful, the soundtrack is just so fucking good, the atmosphere is top notch, and much much more man………..but I’ll end it here, now I sit in my room, with a bittersweet feeling, while there’s a sadness knowing I can’t experience this game a second time, there’s an ultimately happy feeling as well, one that’s so happy that he got experience a piece of media like this one.

Basically takes every enemy placement problem in SOTFS away

The internet lied to me, vanilla is far superior to SOTFS
