Undoubtedly one of the greatest games ever made. I've put over 100 hours in and played nothing else since it was released. I've decided to take a break just before the final showdown, with many shrines left to find and side quests to complete. I'll definitely be coming back later in the year to tidy things up once and for all. As someone that loved Breath of the Wild (possibly my favourite game of all time), I was worried about Nintendo reusing the world I'd already explored so thoroughly, but this felt completely fresh. Between the sky , the depths, and the changed surface world plus, the new and unique skills at your disposal , it's a completely different amazing experience. Would recommend to anyone that has even a passing interest in video games.

Update: Couldn't stay away from the game . Collected all the Tears and defeated the boss. So good.

I was looking forward to playing this and did stick with it until the end (over 20 hours!) but I really slogged through the last two or three planets, mainly out of respect for the first game.

Before I go into the game's flaws, one area that really works is the music -- it's pretty much all great. The graphics and art direction are also good, holding up well on a 4K television. Although saying that, I think the first game looked better -- that might be a matter of taste though or even just misremembering at this point.

Anyway, on to the bad. The voice acting is irritating (this game really didn't need it), the script is poor and the game is significantly less funny than the first. I mean, the first game was hardly hilarious but could raise the occasional chuckle. This one tries too hard and misses the mark more often than not. I should add that the stuff you do between battles also feels worse, a semi-open world setup that just increases the game's runtime rather than giving the player meaningful things to do. On top of that, the amount of menu diving before a battle starts is grating -- each time you go in and out of a menu you're met with a loading screen.

Where things really fall apart (at least for me) is the move away from using a grid system during battles. The battles are just less fun and feel a lot less tactical. I'm sure some veteran of the genre could explain why I'm wrong and most likely be totally right whilst they do it, but it just didn't feel right to me.

The first game focused heavily on strategic battles and this one feels watered-down in terms of both the before/after battle gameplay and the actual battles themselves.

Overall, it's not a bad game, but it's a significant step down from the first.
