Underrated gem.

Oozes with soul unlike its predecessor, most of the level design problems are fixed and the levels are actually fun and engaging to speedrun. There's no padding and bullshit gimmicks inside the actual levels. Bosses are incredible, presentation and atmosphere are great and the OST is a banger, way better than Rush's. The grindier elements encourage you to git gud at the levels and work towards upgrading your boats; special stages are pretty fun and being able to switch between Sonic and Blaze in a single story is pretty nice. The only cancer this time around are the hidden islands, literally 1984.

It really sucks this doesn't get nearly as much attention as the first game, seeing as it's actually fucking good. Only brainlets getting filtered by the sailing will say Rush is better.

One of the shittiest, most overrated Sonic Games ever.

Absolutely awful level design full of cheap instadeaths, closed rooms where all you do is boost left to right until you kill all the enemies, godawful controls and physics with no weight or momentum (literally the same as Sonic 4), springs that randomly send you into tiny platforms suspended over bottomless pits (you're always holding right in this game), horrible tacked on gimmicks with shit controls (hello Altitude Limit floating platform), uninspired graphics and level themes ("night carnival"? bitch please), annoying cutscenes with even more annoying characters, the worst bosses I have ever had the displeasure of fighting in a sonic game with their 90-second long gimmicky cycles and cryptic attacks that are telegraphed worse than the radio waves emitted by Germany in WW2. (the literal first boss can instakill you BTW).

The levels aren't even fun to speed through because they always force you to come to a halt with dumb gimmick of the day (what the fuck is wrong with the pyramid level whose name I forgot because it's not memorable?). The Special Stages have a good premise initially but quickly devolve into Dimps bullshitery later on.

Literally everything about this pile of garbage makes Sonic Advance 2 seem like S3&K by comparison. I'll never understand why Sonic fans suck this awful game's balls. Feels devoid of soul and passion compared to the advance games, like it was just made for some quick buxx.

But the music is kinda cool I guess.
