Meh. The gameplay is essentially the same from the original. So. Still very fun moment to moment. swinging around doesn’t get old and the combat system is still engaging. But the lack of gadget options compared to 2018 does put it back and make the system get kinda old after a bit. Story is very whatever. Some characters are very unsympathetic when the game clearly wants them to be sympathetic, and it gets kinda annoying. Some set pieces are still pretty cool tho. Overall, not worth the base 60 dollar price at all. Pretty good time if you get it on a heavy discount and enjoyed the 2018 game, and want something to tide you over till the sequel

alright so i liek this game a lot but it comes with a good chunk of problems. the story i find to be frankly nonsensical and hard for me to take seriously. i find everything with the cult to be very uninteresting, and a lot of times things just happen or people are just at places with no rhyme or explanation and nobody questions it. That, along with the usual sloppy dialogue and odd voice acting that is typical of SH really makes the story hard for me to enjoy at all. I like heather a lot though, or at least the idea of her. Sometimes again, she doesnt really feel like an actual human being with how she reacts to a lot of the story, but her general attitude to everything is a huge breath of fresh air compared to the blank nothingness that is harry and the depressed james.

What really amplifies this as an experience is actually playing the game. Apart from the boss fights, which suck, because SH bosses always suck really badly, the moment to moment gameplay is so fun. My least favorite part of the games beforehand was having to slog through the fog dense town itself, searching the streets for supplies and just weaving through enemies. Especially in 2 where it felt like it took forever to navigate through the town, espeically after the hospital. This is mostly ripped out of 3, and whats left is just a sequence of different liminal space-like locations, each more interesting and scary than the last. The hospital in this game deserves a special shoutout.

The enemies also feel like much more of a real threat, since your weapons, especially your melee ones, feel a lot weaker than the previous games, and the amount of ammo and health items your given feel much lower, especially without the town to explore. It makes exploring these locations feel much more tense and overwhelming. Although this bites back a bit when it comes to bosses, which are such a slog, and some enemies are very annoying, specifically the crawlers.

In general i feel this game is much scarier and its moment to moment events are much more memorable. Some of the scenes already feel burnt into my brain. I really loved actually playing and exploring through. It lacks the introspectiveness and raw emotional impact that the plot and characters of SH2 had however, and if it couldve pulled through with a story of the level of SH2, this could have been one of my favorite games ever. For now though, this is just a really good time. Difficult to say if this is my favorite out of the trilogy, or SH2. Leaning towards 2, but this is very close

not really sure what i think of this game. may be a case of overhype for me but it is very difficult to see how this is treated as one of the best video games ever made for some people. I'm very glad i played it though. I had a lot of fun just playing the game itself. Apart from the sections wandering around the outdoors of silent hill, especially later on in the game, and pretty much all the boss fights absolutely sucked, consisting of clumsily running from corner to corner of a small tight room and shooting a shotgun like 50 times. But exploring any actual indoors section was always very fun and engaging for me, even if any of the enemies you face really never ever pose any real threat. Like sh1, i was never really scared by the game, but it did get me in parts. The sound design is still absolutely immaculate, and everytime i was even a little bit spooked, it was due to the wonderful work that was cleary put into the sound design. Story wise is where im really mixed though. I suppose I didnt really get parts of it. I don't really understand the role of Eddie and Angela for example. And voice acting wise.....I know for some people it really enhances whats there, and they believe its completely on purpose. I really really fail to see how either could be true. It really brought me out of many scenes, especially any scene with angela my gosh. James' journey and discovrey never really hit me hard emotionally throughout most of the story, and i could never fully invest myself in it. The ending letter was really the most effective part of the story and it felt like everyhting before never really lived up to it. Although again the va work really brought most of that down for me

TLDR: Very glad i played game and very positive but also feeling kinda mixed and perhaps a tad disappointed......
