how the fuck are you gonna make a rail shooter and then make the guns sound like politely knocking on a god damned door
2003
ranks real high in the pantheon of "games where you tell your buds to go do stuff and then watch them do it"
ioi's legacy shows in these wonderfully constructed levels full of tunnels and alleys with which to flank your assailaints
skip the cutscenes though

I can't really say anything nice about this game's presentation.
At least it functions, more or less.

Edit: I dropped this fuckin thing after 100 hours because I had too many other games to play but there was STILL MORE STORY???!?!?!??! This thing is wild. BEWARE.
Something about NIS games and having way too many systems stuffed into 'em. Thankfully, the mechanics which do matter still make for a wonderful search-action RPG.
Can't wait to see what the deal with all this "endgame" stuff is.

Text adventure surrealism that metes out its mechanical tricks well through its playtime. For fans of milk inside/outside, Hylics, YN-likes.
2020
please, take me away, monstergirl lady. bring me to your tribe so i may be free
1999
The best behind-the-ship rail shooter on Playstation - I have no idea who has the patience for the cutscenes between levels, though.
Most advanced rail shooter on the NES. This game rules - it's got levels with enemy formations synced to classical music chiptunes, elaborate visual setpieces, mid-level dialog - and it even plays great!
2000
Really mushy Star Fox clone that seems to have put more effort into the score attack than making the actual flying feel good.
Harrowing nightmare collage. No less a vibes-based experience than the first, but enthralling if you're into Yume Nikki kinda stuff.
2021
Warm, fuzzy, bouncy, but kinda by the numbers. Play Solar Ash and Sonic Frontiers first.
1997
The Tonka Truck version of Panzer Dragoon.
Necessary for rail shooter heads.

2022
Snackable, workmanlike platformer which ends with a whimper unless you're a completionist.
2021
Really great concept that's too obsessed with its own levels.
Requiring so many replays per level obliterates the pacing.

2014
A gorgeously realized choose-your-own-adventure book of a video game which still doesn't have any notable clones, strangely.
