give Kim her reversal back please please please

if nobody got me i know firaga blast got me

this game is......weird. after a week of binge playing this game only taking breaks to play yakuza 6 and travis strikes again for tiny bits it's safe to say that i still don't know what to think about this game. im making this review to see if i can manage to gather my thoughts about this weirdo ass game because i feel like there's so much to talk about.
ive been a sonic fan for what 2 years now? though my experience with the franchise is limited, only really playing the games that are easily accessible like gens, the adventure games, mania etc. so getting into frontiers i only had one wish, i wanted sonic to control well and he absolutely does. rail jumping and just boosting around the islands with mach speed is absolutely stupid fun it's crazy. but sometimes i also feel like my experience with the game isnt genuine kinda? most of my enjoyment came from trying out the silly exploits and seeing how far i can go with breaking this game, kronos and ares granted me this satisfaction, it was like playing around the adventure fields from sa1 all over again. then chaos and rhea hit and the cracks started showing, unfun 2d sections galore and there were so much that i was just so ready to get over it. ouranos was kinda fun i guess? but at its core it's just a reskin of kronos with more things to do.
speaking of reskin cyberspace! my hottest take is i actually really liked some of cyberspace, but like, only exploiting cyberspace. the most fun ive had with them is homing attack cancelling my way through the stages trying to see how low i can get my time to be. the 3d stages with layouts from gens and adventure 2 were the ones that were really fun but the 2d levels were absolutely horrendous, i never noticed how slow sonic ran until i played these it's horrible, but like, it's still fun to exploit them and speeding through them with how slow sonic is is satisfying atleast.
but the absolute highlight of the game for me were the spectacle, watching sonic take down bosses in the most over the top way possible is so awesome it reminds me of how cool these characters really are, i also really enjoyed how ian flynn wrote these characters, ive never felt this much gay energy between sonic and knuckles ever it's so fun watching these characters interact like this again. tails' whole arc resonated with me specifically kinda, all this just made me super excited about how they're gonna wrap this up, and uhhh
the ending sequence sucked. they fumbled the ending so hard it honestly lowered my opinion of the game, no spoilers but the final boss being either THAT on hard or a basic QTE in normal and easy is honestly so disappointing, main antagonist wasn't even that cool i really wish they'd flesh out the stuff with it a bit more.

..
ok actually writing down my thoughts just made me even more confused on what to think. i definitely enjoyed the game but there are so much glaring flaws and issues that i'd like to be addressed to call this game on par with something like colors maybe gens but at the same time im super satisfied with how stupidly janky this game is?? my little small brain was already easily satisfied with how stupid fun running around the islands were so it wins i guess????
im sitting in the school library writing this down at awe at how weird this game is but at the same time im also thinking about how awfully paced this review is, just a random scramble of words that i decided to put together with this dumbass vent at the end. but like, i had my fun right? yeah maybe that's it actually. this game is weird, definitely flawed but at its core it's super fun despite everything. and i love this game, this series, that way.

this is a review for the sf6 beta i got dp'd by juri twice on MY wakeup this game sucks see me in +r 8/10 would play on release

if you asked me a year or 2 ago if i was interested in kingdom hearts as a series, i probably would've laughed at you because kh as a concept was something i'd never touch. a crossover between disney and ff was something i'd consider cringe back then. but now for some luck, kingdom hearts 2 is my favorite videogame of all time.

finished this game a second time today, was hesitant on making this review since everything about this game has been discussed to death already. but fuck it im writing this at 1am because i love this game to death and i want people to know why.

replayed the game on standard (derogatory) i thought the combat wouldnt click with me a second time since standard is just a button masher but no, i still love the combat in this game. weaving in magic between combos or as finishers are still as fluid and stylish as ever, utilizing drives to their full extent is fun. ive been watching speedruns and challenge videos on kh2 and tried imploring some of the strats i saw there and wow i love watching the opponent's health bar drain to 0 in an instant LOL.

but what really makes kh2 for me are the characters. the combat's fun no doubt but man i love this cast. 2 was my introduction to kh, i watched my friend play 1 so i saw some of it but 2 was my first real kh game. and playing it for the first time and seeing the roxas prologue go down with no prior context almost made me cry like a bitch tbh. unsurprisingly roxas is my favorite character in the game, watching his whole story go down was the first time i've ever felt bad/loved a character, his conversation with axel at the clocktower was the first time ive shed tears during a videogame, and rewatching it knowing what happens in 358 just made it hurt even more. the reunion of the destiny trio was also a part of the game i didnt know i'd be emotional for, after searching for riku and kairi the whole game and finally being able to see them hold hands together again is just great. this game just knows how and when to hit hard, the final cutscene of riku and sora in the beach and kairi's letter to sora will forever be etched into my brain.

it looks like im rambling (i am) but i just cant put into proper sentences how much i love this game it's absolutely fantastic. everything from story to combat to characters is just great and has resonated with me for almost a year now.
god i love this game

kiwami is a mess and such a disappointing sequel to zero. i get that it's their first shot at a yakuza game but even then it's only decent at that.

the story is the most underwhelming part about the game, i didnt care about any of the characters especially the ones introduced in kiwami and the ones that were introduced in zero either appeared in 2 cutscenes or died which was really disappointing because they built them up to be this cool interesting character just to fucking hit the gutter in their first scene. not only that but the bosses are also garbage, they felt like they were made on the ps2 and they were such a slog to go through aside from the majima boss fights which were really fun fights. speaking of, the best part about this game are the kiwami exclusive content like majima everywhere, it's such a fun side thing and the boss fights are both challenging and fun, it got annoying sometimes but i can excuse it because they're so funny. the nishiki cutscenes are also a really good addition because it fleshes out his character and without it, it really doesn't make sense why he turned bad.

the substories also took a big hit, what was some of my favorite parts in zero turned into some of the most boring things i've played in a while with the repetitive and formulaic nature of most of them. i can remember like 2 substories from this game compared to the like 10 in zero. karaoke also sucks in this game btw.

the combat is really fun though i'll give it that, the street fights were some of the highlights of the game. the way they handled style switching in this game is really great it made the combat more fun to play around with. (i know the style switching upgrade is a thing in zero but it's locked to an accessory (sucks)) this just makes the boss fights even more disappointing because the combat is so great and free form until you're forced to play a specific way for the bosses which goes against the freestyle gameplay it's going for (looking at you kiwami heat actions).

overall while i do get it's supposed to be a faithful remake but i think it's to its detriment. i saw a review saying it's a ps2 game masked with ps4 graphics and i wholeheartedly agree with that. what sucks most is that there's glimpses of kiwami being a solid game with the kiwami exclusive content but is so overruled by the stuff from the original yakuza 1.

THIS HAPPENED TO MY FRIEND BAM ONCE

i like when he says dame dame it was really awesome :)

Yakuza 0 is an outstanding game, it's no masterpiece but it was truly an enjoyable time. This game's been on my mind ever since I finished it and I just want to articulate my mostly spoiler free thoughts on it because god it was so good.

For context this whole playthrough was supposed to be one whole joke, my friend let me play this game on his PC because we thought it'd be funny. At first I wasn't at all interested in finishing the game, admittedly Kiryu's first few chapters weren't really all that gripping, don't get me wrong it was fun but it didn't seem like something I'd finish.

But then I got to Majima.... from the moment he was introduced I was immediately hooked. His first chapters were really fun to follow and I got immediately attached to his character and the story. After that I was hooked all the way to the end, I wanted to see where the story was headed after that.

Admittedly there were some massive tonal shifts in the story, switching from one character to another was fun but it was really weird going from Majima's dark story to goofballing with Kiryu and Nishiki. And one time after a hard hitting cutscene with Kiryu, I was greeted with a side quest that I forgot to finish (it was really funny).

But that's only one part of the story, because what really made 0 so memorable for me were the side quests, surprisingly a lot of effort were put it shows. These were funny as fuck and even really wholesome at times. The minigames were also a huge timewaster for me. I've sunk in so many hours in shit like disco, the phone minigame, karaoke (especially karaoke), real estate and the cabaret club that I feel bad taking all those hours from my friend LOL. The reason I didn't finish Majima's cabaret club was I realized I was already nearing 60 hours and I still had like 6 more chapters in the game LMAO (my friend had to learn how to hex edit just so I can use the 4th style).

The combat was really fun to play around with as well, it doesn't have the same mechanical depth as something like Devil May Cry and it really doesn't need to. Just going crazy with all of Majima's styles (especially the 4th one) and wrecking shit with Kiryu's beast mode was already pretty satisfying, the fact that the game gives you so much cash to upgrade your abilities just gave me more incentive to sink this much time into fighting random thugs in the street (just like japan fr).

This game is such an easy recommendation to people who love games with an intriguing story and fun side content, so if you're one of those people I suggest giving this game a shot you won't regret it :D
