Many more recent assessments of Silent Hill 2 are something akin to "THIS is the game you all didn't shut the fuck about for 20 years?"

i think you picked the big ones that stand out to but heartbreakingly i must admit that the original Devil May Cry seems to wash completely over as many people in 2022 as it engages with

Bioshock is one of these, at least it was for me.

I deleted my comment earlier because I don't know if it would fit but I still stand by Hollow Knight, I really don't get it

Shadow of the Colossus unfortunately does this to a lot of people since they're not a fan of the controls and camera

I think Mega Man 2 fits in here?

Thinking that some of these games aren’t that great is the whole point of this list

kind of an edge case but i'll pitch it. i played the original streets of rage trilogy well after the release of streets of rage remake, so by that point it was kind of 'common' consensus with most of the people you would try talking to about the series that the remake was the 'best' way to experience the trilogy. i remember some of those fans were even upset about SOR4 for a time. anyways i played SOR:R a little bit after playing the first three. glad i did. that games bad

Yume Nikki? Feel like due to a surge of games like it that came afterwards (be they fangames or inspired by) some would feel the edge of the game as dull
I know it's probably not old enough yet but I'm definitely starting to see this sometimes with Dark Souls which is aging me just by the weight of how many I've heard it from. Either way this is a fun list!!

Also Gone Home I feel fits the bill since it does receive a lot of "people only like it because lesbians are in it" critiques

Kirby Super Star Ultra compared to Super Star?

I have a friend who played SH2 a couple of years ago and loved it

Anyways, I feel weird because I am in the position that I played a lot of them as a child and wasn't really a fan even then
