One of my earliest moments of existential dread in gaming occurred while I was navigating around the menus on Gran Turismo 3 (free with ym PS2) and seeing all these 500-lap races you could do. Five hundred laps! Just hours and hours of precision turning and monotnous constant attention to detail. Spiritual death!

Agreed, and the best thing I can say for Forza Horizon is that it’s emphatically not that kind of racing game either. It’s very easy for newbies to get into with an interesting and diverse set of races and challenges, an open world to explore with lots of the best parts found off-road, and things like a rewind mechanic in case precision steering is not your thing. But it’s still a game where you’re accelerating, braking, messing around with your car in menus, and not much else. Just not for me!
