Raven Software veterans who worked on classics such as Singularity and X-Men Origins Wolverine bring you a retro style shooter in the vein of the seminal (and everyone's favorite) Brutal Doom™, for the low low price of 25 eurodollars

ideally experienced in co-op so that you can have more than one guy perpetually screaming HANDS IN THE AIR

A decade in the making and backed by a near-infinite budget, so naturally it's a complete and total singularity of shit bereft of merit. It aims for mediocrity and lands below rock-bottom. The developers understood nothing about Diablo 2 beyond its superficial trappings and went out of their way to fix supposed problems with it (i.e. prune most things that made it any good), yet at the same time catered to misconceptions surrounding it that were spawned by its obsessive online community of lunatics who farmed Pindle 24/7. The end result is like a lobotomized iteration of Gauntlet, except that in Gauntlet you at least don't have to periodically replace your equipment with ones that have bigger numbers. Because Diablo is apparently all about clicking and looting, as Jay Wilson said.

Fuck Yu Derek Yu (evil bastard man)

mmm yes I love 30+ hour long tutorials and endless VN nonsense that I skip without feeling guilty. just like my favorite pokeyman and persona games (love them lots). nEw features many dozen hours into the game?? DON'T MIND IF I DO. my fayvorite part of this game? it allows for (and expects) strategies other than alpha striking everything to death, woah, make of that what u will Jake Solomon

anyone who has ever written or uttered the words "b**mer shooter" is certifiably a shitwit

blue spheres is the worst thing invented by man since usury

Would be marginally better if you didn't spend the vast majority of time playing baby's first 4X where you spend the vast majority of time waiting for turn/load times, but what do I know. I like Tomb Kings, my braincase is obviously full of sand.

It's a PC VIDEO GAME from 99 that's open source so it is go-od no ifs or buts, that's it (very objective review). it made me feel AWE and that is also objective (my feelings are quantifiable!!!). also could someone borrow me their Microsoft SideWinder Joystick (my dad lost mine even though it used to be surgically attached to my hand), please, i beg you i dont wanna go revisit tie fighter without one :( leave me ur mail and billing address

you'd think that a diablo 2 clone themed around bronze age mythology wouldn't be painfully boring but I guess everything is possible, the fact that this sleep-aid from 2006 got yet another expansion proves it even further

I went through those hot new master levels on autopilot without even trying and got a better score than Zero Master after beating hordemode, so all this text I am going to be impulsively vomiting will be objective. By that I mean it will be an object (big) - lots of text. Dööm Eternal is a DEEP skill-based action game unlike any other; it becomes exponentially less involving the more you try to dig into it. All in all it's an enjoyable enough aim trainer but hardly anything more than that. The core problem with it being that its design so-to-speak is in answer to the previous game's complete lack of design, which is to say that it's a product of trying to jury-rig something that was fundamentally busted and vacuous into proper order rather than a holistic from the ground up attempt to design something good, and it shows. For instance vestigialities carried over from Doom 4, namely glory kills & the chainsaw, might have proper mechanical purpose to them now but their core issue remains (and is exarberated further); repeatedly doing canned animations that grind you to a halt is antithetical in an FPS that's meant to be a run & gun frag em up where you ought to never stop moving. Yet you end up doing that a whole lot.

This sentiment applies to the whole game, it's comprised of self-sabotaging elements that slather it with seeming complexity but it ultimately does not lend itself to complex nor even varied gameplay. On the whole it amounts to a rote mechanical exercise with little room (or even expectation) for creativity since the game goes out of its way to condition the player and making them do what they're asked to do, taking problem solving largely out of the equation and leaving nothing but the raw execution of plainly spelled-out mechanics. And there's nothing worthwhile going on outside of this, because involving 3D level design is a dead art outside of modding scenes and the odd few indie games these days. So all we're left with is purely the combat, in which all you do throughout is thoughtlessly dispose of enemies (that are often helpless/stationary) by following the flowcharts drilled into your head from start to finish, all the while staying invincible with the variety of crutches afforded to you and in large part by merely making proactive use of the z-axis to make most things unable to hit you.

Encounters are all more or less interchangeable due to the capabilities lended to the player unless they're imposed with severe gimmickery and/or a select few enemy types that you can't just turn into statues and bombard to death. The cyberdemon for instance might have ten times more mechanical stuff going on than the OG from 93 but ultimately he's far simpler to deal with and just another big target dummy that you pummel to death like any other due to how much firepower and mobility you have, rather than a factor that makes you adapt to an ever-evolving situation of tricks & traps. None of that here, go up to that archvile and kablam them apart, just let the muscle memory do its job and spam those grenades and cycle through those weapons like a spastic while deleting everything on sight until they're all dead and the credits are rolling. What fun, makes me feel really good about myself. The best that the designers could muster in regards to a notable change of pace is with enemies like blood angels and the marauder (the less said the better), in turn completely halting the player's momentum and reducing the ordeal into nothing more than waiting for the AI's traffic light to turn green before you can then unload at an immobile target. Because that takes skill, at least according to Hugo Martin.

There's an initial learning curve to it so it's at least relatively difficult (and fun) for a time, but the same can be said of spinning plates. It might be reductive but it's the most apt comparison I can come up with. In both cases there's really very little to it after the initial hump and only so far one can push it before banging your head on the skill ceiling. And if an abject moron like me is capable of reaching it, then I feel pretty safe in saying that this isn't exactly a very robust game in the grand scheme. There's far better options out there. Playing UT/Q3 against bots for instance offers what this game is ultimately going for (that being arena combat against AI) but does so many magnitudes better and without inundating you with superfluous nincompoopery, better yet you could just go play online if you aren't scared of getting pwnd and called really mean words like n**b. Bots tend to do that anyhow. On the other hand one is much better off looking to the likes of community pwads for Doom if they're after involving singleplayer level/encounter design. But if all you're aching for is a self-satisfaction simulator then I'd say it's more than adequate. Ultrakill and masturbation have much higher skill ceilings though.

ADDENDUM: HELLO I REALIZED I OUGHT TO SPECIFY ABOUT MY PREFACING STATEMENT (which is not hyperbolic) THAT I DID NOT GET A BETTER SCORE THAN WHAT Zero Master (a man much better at video games than you or me) LIKELY CURRENTLY HAS ON THE LEADERBOARD FOR DOOM ETERNAL'S HORDE MODE (which if you ask me isn't much good as either a horde mode or a score attack but I digress) BECAUSE HE EVIDENTLY WENT ON TO PLAY IT MORE THAN ONCE IN ORDER TO SCORECHASE. I DID HOWEVER DO BETTER THAN HIM ON THE FIRST BLIND ATTEMPT BY COMPARISON. https://files.catbox.moe/uvr5ew.jpg IF YOU COMPARE MY RESULT TO HIS IN HIS INITIAL VIDEO OF IT YOU CAN SEE I ENDED UP WITH 4 MORE EXTRA LIVES AND A MARGINALLY HIGHER SCORE THAN HIM. I DON'T MEAN TO POSTURE, I DON'T THINK THIS IS PARTICULARLY REMARKABLE, I ONLY SAY THE TRUTH. peace, DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE A COMMENT I LOVE ONLINE DISCOURSE
