stop being mean to berdly or i will cry

i was vibing with the creative decision to have all spoken dialogue be in an alien-sounding science fiction conlang until i found out the steam copy is just broken to make the voice acting be in french

they should really make a sequel to this game but with cards instead of horses

everything that happens after getting the urge to boot up a clicker game is to people with adhd what biting into a delicious looking peanut butter cookie and falling into anaphylactic shock is to people who know they have severe nut allergies. probably

i went into this game expecting it to be bad, based on that one viral clip with the elephant (if you know, you know).

was definitely not expecting the most engaging co-op experience i've had, ever. was incredible to play with my boyfriend (+ great that we didn't have to pay for it twice, considering the friend pass), and it never got old. each new level brought a significant change to the gameplay, keeping things fresh and fun. while the story didn't have the best premise, and i hated all the characters for about half the game, by the end i really cared about cody and may.

i still hate the book, though.

my favourite levels had to be the cuckoo clock level and the snowglobe level. the incredible level of care and detail put into every piece of them- the puzzles, the environments, the sheer amount you can EXPLORE... it was fantastic. i'm really sad that it's over and i can't play more!

would you still love me if i happened to be a (very mean) goose that just wanted to ruin your life and make you cry

Just like with their previous game (Contradiction!), At Dead of Night offers an hybrid variation of the point and click format. The 3D graphics and the liveaction footage mesh together in a way that doesn't feel intrusive. The acting is good. The atmosphere is impeccable. The game mechanics are interesting and help with the immersion. In general it's a game that's well polished visually.

Sadly it's in the story where it falls short. I kept waiting for a turning point in the plot where the clues fell together in a new revelation, but instead the story didn't go beyond the genre-typical exploitation of the mentally ill and the abused. Even when there seemed to be hints of any substantial topics, it didn't go in deep.

It's good for a romp but don't expect anything beyond that.

Little Nightmares II might be the perfect sequel.

In fact, most of my problems with the first game are wholely solved here. The addition of Six as an AI-Controlled partner brilliantly establishes personal stakes to the story that the first game sorely lacked, as well as innovates with a more clever and cooperative approach to puzzle solving. Not only does Six help as an extra set of hands, her AI might be the most natural and lifelike AI companion I've ever experienced in a game.

The setpieces are more thrilling, the tone is more threatening, the gameplay mechanics are more varied and interesting, the visuals (especially the lighting) are more captivating, the whole journey is more awe-inspiring.

Aside from like, two combat encounters with frustratingly tight timings? And maybe some of the jumps are hard to judge sometimes? I really didn't have any problems with this game at all. It's just the perfect sequel, and perhaps my favorite adventure platformer.

good game and good sequel!
challenging at times, but overall a smooth experience so don't expect getting stuck for hours figuring out a puzzle. i believe this was a conscious choice, the game constantly auto-saves so even if you lose, you go back steps away from where you lost. it does not expect you to struggle, it wants you to move forward and that helps the flow of the story.
it's an improvement to the first but it still feels like the same game which is, in my opinion, not a bad thing at all.
definitely spookier than the previous game, and a lot more vague at times with its meaning.
the ~combat~ is not hard, but annoying at times and hard to get used to.
there is lots of environmental storytelling, so i highly suggest that you take a hot minute to appreciate every level.
i liked it a lot!
