this review would be longer if it didnt late literally a year for me to beat.
i waited for this game for so long with insane anticipation and i was not let down at all (ok well, playable zelda and a postgame would have been nice) there is so much in this game, ESPECIALLY with the gloom like holy hell i am absolutely gonna keep playing this and lighting that up. i know others have criticized this game saying its just BOTW again but I really can't agree with that assessment. there is so much new stuff, it feels like a very significant iteration.
i particularly enjoyed the endgame, ganon doing the dodge thing on you was a Sans Undertale (tldr sans is the only enemy in undertale that dodges) moment, like what a shock! the little things like diving to grab zelda and pressing the button to seal ganon were so impactful. it wasnt link doing those, it was YOU. which yeah, seem like basic design stuff but BOTW didn't have a big endgame, so maybe my expectations are distorted a tad. but regardless a lot of great decisions were made in the production of this game.
i dont really wanna predict if zelda will continue in this direction or go back to a more linear 3d design. this saga of zelda has proved once again that zelda can innovate and redefine itself, and of course changing the entire gaming industry along the way, and i am good with whatever they do next, be it open world or linear. just as long as we get some 2D zelda on the side too like cmon please
also purah was fuckin HOT thnx aonuma xoxo

need more of this and thankfully its open source so the community will make their more, yay
i approached this game expecting that fun Sly 2 mission design i enjoyed so much, but was underwhelmed by the linearity of levels. i find it strange that conceptually, this game is what it is and not what Sly 2 is. they had the concept for a thief sneakin around doing stuff yet restricted themselves to hallway platforming. what we do have is well made, i will admit that, but how do you come to the conclusion the best kind of gameplay for a character and style like this is a level based platformer. this game should not be punished because of its successors, but even if Sly 2 didn't exist, this issue would still be there. it is the urge for more. and i am glad we got more, this game is brimming with style and great characters that it would have been a crime if they weren't fleshed out. looking forward to Sly 3 eventually.
