really loved this! i dont know if im just impatient, but i did use a guide for almost all of it (after whatever it was that caused me my first roadblock). i think that's more of a me thing, that it still felt a little too obtuse for me to play it completely on my own, but it keeps me from really really cementing it as an all timer for me. still - really great. looks amazing, sounds amazing, plays amazing, really fun and challenging. a great video game.
not really a fan. it was fine, but a lot here i didn't like - doesn't feel great to move around (which is why i didn't actually finish the collectables), i think the character designs (or at least how they're rendered) are pretty bad, and i wasn't really feeling the story. combat was pretty fun, which i feel like is the main thing people talk about with this game, even though i wasn't really a fan of some of the encounters (multiple gun wielding thugs in a big room? big joker?). probably wouldn't return to this, but i might check out the others!
really, really enjoyed this. an incredible improvement over forbidden west. some fun puzzles (including ones you had to read things for! they weren't complicated but it was still a little interesting!), some fun encounters, fun use of the environment, the additional enemies were fun, the main villain was something a little different from the rest of the series so far, the new area looked good, and i really liked aloy and the story of this one! one important thing that i caught - the collectibles found around the world were NOT map markers you just made your way to. they actually involved just looking around the world and finding interesting spots. i think that going forward, if that's the way they go for this series (along with all of the other improvements, like the writing and characterization), it'll be a drastic improvement. it's hard to say if it's just the length of this that helps it pack a better punch, but i still think that it could be a good blueprint for the series future!!
didn't finish this. actually gave up in death mountain - getting through any of this is like bashing my head against the wall, and not in any fun sort of way. couldn't even make it this far without creating a new save state after every enemy. there's a lot to like here - the way it looks, the soundtrack, the leveling system - but overall just too hard.

pretty fun game! really vibed with the visuals, the gameplay, and the base outline of the plot - the idea of taking the standard sci-fi "precursor race" setup and changing it so that the precursors are US isn't necessarily original but it's interesting and kept me wanting to see what happened next! plenty you can improve on - streamline the open world elements a bit, work on the specific writing, make the character animations a little better. but it's definitely got me feeling like i want to roll right into the sequel, which i am going to do.
