A REAL sleeper hit. The only major sin this game commits is being on the Virtual Boy, and its second is that it's criminally short.
This game is astonishingly great. It's more of a follow-up to the original Wario Land than anything close to the style of the others but it's interesting to see how they built off that. The soundtrack is nice, the 32-bit details, while held back by the Virtual Boy, do have some nice spritework. I really liked how they actually used the 3D "going into the background" mechanic here for puzzle solving like in the mansion level. Unfortunately, this game is locked on the Virtual Boy so it's very hard to access and Nintendo will likely never ever acknowledge it ever existed but, if you get the chance, spend an afternoon and blast through this hidden gem.
