After playing Royal, I can see why it's considered the king of jrpgs. From UI design to the surprisingly fitting jazz music, it's clear that Persona 5 Royal stands out from the typical jrpg. The game has a lot of personality and is absolutely oozing with style. Additionally, the Phantom Thieves are a great cast of supporting characters and are some of the most likable side characters of any jrpg. This aspect really shines when combined with the social simulator portion of the game. But even Persona couldn't escape some of the most overplayed jrpg characteristics. The romance option with your teacher is a little ridiculous, and the final boss of the base game being a literal god felt sudden due to insufficient build-up. It feels like both these examples were added to the game for the sake of being cliche. Overall, these are only minor flaws that don't detract heavily from enjoying the game.
