my 2022
new and old, these are games i played in 2022... very loosely ranked, though i liked all of these (with vampire saviors being dead last for sure—it's fun for a while, but it's a completely mindless lizardbrain-pleasing timewaster). of note: the pixel remasters of ff5 and 6 are excellent with some light modding, but i don't wanna rank 'em here because those games are hardly new to me and i replay them freqeuently. that aside, i played some goddamned good ass games this year.

i am simply a mark for these games. i love elden ring as much as i loved demon's souls.
didn't touch it until january of this year. this may have been wise, as a majority of its technical issues were more or less fixed and i simply enjoyed the rich sensory immersion of this damaged (but beautiful) machine. it moved me more than i thought it would. i was a skeptic, to say the least, but i loved it. i even replayed it more recently, after 1.6 dropped, and i like it even more. speaking of imsims, this is perhaps the closest any open world game has come to feeling like one. an onion with many layers.
one of the biggest 180s i've experienced in games, going from really struggling to full-on obsessed
finally played this, and uhhh... perhaps the peak of the "immersive sim" category of games, short of deus ex...?

not my first time playing outward, but with the definitive edition i chose to play through another route. love this game.
this isn't actually GOOD, really, but i did play a bunch of it anyway...

Prey is awesome! Prey: Mooncrash is worth checking out as well, if you haven't, I liked it even more than the base game.
