Hands down one of the best "different genre indie games"-out there. Recommend playing during winter-holiday seasons for maximum cozyness.

It s Pokemon Snap!
Well not quite, but at its core Alekon is pure, unaltered Pokemon Snap. You move on rails, throw food at adorable creatures, and snap their photos in as many different poses as possible, to be rated on a point scale.
There are two areas in which Alekon seperates itself from Pokemon Snap, one positive, one negative.

Once you have explored an area sufficiently, you are released from the on-rails shackles and can move through the level freely. I love that! Being able to take my time, explore the space, and find the best angles is something I always wished from Pokemon Snap, and Alekon's implementation brought me just as much joy and engagement as I had imagined. The highlight of every area was going on one big, all encompassing photo taking free roam trip.

To break up the photography gameplay Alekon has a little hub world. In it you can find, talk to, and do quests for every single creature you have taken a photo of.
These quests loosely divide into two groups. Dialogue/narrative heavy quests, which are mostly fine (my standout star being the court case, which is genuienly funny). And minigame based quests, which are war crimes. Truly some of the worst things you will have ever played, just absolute abominations. Take with me what I learnt through painful experience: Ignore them all together, only do the narrative ones.

But despite the hit or miss side quests, the photography part of the game is strong enough that I'd recommend this to any Pokemon Snap enjoyer, I had a really good couple of hours with Alekon
