The best Zelda game to me as a kid.

i feel like i should have encountered this game as a kid 20 years ago watching somebody over the shoulder play it on their game boy and being extremely mystified by it. the most 2001-ass game boy advance-ass video game. the essence of this console. that is to say i'm extremely charmed by it but my anbernic decided to toss my save file a couple hours in and it's a bit too slow for me to want to run through again. i'll be back, bomberman...

this is in the qualifier for the best bomberman game. it's got that good feeling exploration, while being a fun bomberman game. the best bomberman games do this!

THE GREAT ZELDA GAME ON THE GBA ISNT MINISH CAP ITS FUCKIN BOMBERMAN TOURNAMENTTTTT

Honestly, I don't know what I was expecting going into this game. But I didn't really enjoy my start of this game. Bomberman walks super slow, the bombs take forever to explode, a lot of this game just feels like waiting. The weird monster battle just feels like mindless rock-paper-scissors.

Needless to say I'm dropping this. Maybe I'll give it a more fair shot in the future.

Being a GBA game, I came into this with little expectations, especially since this was a game I played as a kid, but never finished. As I thought, there's not much to write home about with this game. I'm no Bomberman aficionado, so I don't really know or care about what's so important about Max or the Pokemon like creatures you use for stuff. Most of them were either only used for a single purpose or overall pretty worthless with a couple of standouts who got used more than once or twice and then shoved aside.

Control is pretty simple, but using R to open the main menu and Select to open the save menu (which you can't use in caves but you can in bases). Speaking of which, dying kicks you to your last save, which is easy to do early on as your own bombs are probably your greatest enemy. You start with 3 hearts and getting hit by your own bomb explosion does 2 hearts worth of damage at the start of the game.

As much as I liked the boss music, not only do you only hear it 4 times, all the bases and Fantasy, the final dungeon, share the same music as the cave music.

As for the "Tournament" part of the title, it's misleading. There is no sort of tournament in the entirety of the story. There are coliseum where you can do Karabon battles, but unless you need money, you only really need to do it once just to get the item to make RC Bombs, which are easily the best bomb type in the entire game and very easy to use to make all combat encounters much easier.

Why am I giving it a 3? Well, I didn't hate it. I didn't like it, either, so it just sits in that middle of the road spot for me.
