A clunkier version of Indianapolis 500 with a dumber type of car racing.

wow this is literally just driving in a boring ass circle. The 3d perspective might have been impressive at the time but the graphics are so damn ugly now.

Growing up in the rural armpits of America, I was forced into owning a bunch of Nascar games during my extra young years. Some actually pretty decent, some not so much. Days of Thunder unfortunately is from the column of "not so much".

I was seriously dreading the day I had to play this again to log here, but here we are I guess. As you can tell probably I don't care for Nascar irl, and this game chooses to try and simulate it to some degree. A goddamn shame, because that means it's absolutely boring. No music during gameplay, just the sound of your 8-bit engine and probably the sound of your annoyance at how utterly unbeatable the CPU drivers are. Not only are these guys a pain in the ass to try and pass, but they also drive cars with bottomless gas tanks and magic tires that never get worn out, meaning they never have to pull into the pit stop.

Oh, but you? You gotta pit constantly with this clunky method of switching between crew members one at a time to change tires, refill gas, etc. Even if you're an undisputed master of controlling the pit crew members in Days of Thunder the CPU will still charge ahead of you in the meantime. It's not completely unheard of to head to the pit stop, and then come out and barely be able to make it past one CPU car, but then need to pit again! It's a never-ending cycle, and this game is apparently eight tracks long each with their own qualifying rounds I'd assume. I honestly can't imagine parking your ass down and playing this game for presumably two hours even back in 1990, just playing two races of this game sucked the fucking life out of me.

No nostalgia for this one.
