First ever RPG based on a comic (maybe?). I'm a fan of a comic but I'm BONKERS for this game, it goes far beyond the wicked humor and artstyle I expected from the comics. This is an RPG with fresh mechanics that I genuinely expect (hope!!) to see future games borrow from. Particularly the merch mechanic, I never want to have to juggle purchasing 3 different types of health potion ever again.

A very solid and well-made RPG! Main characters and the world they live in are silly, but fleshed out surprisingly well. Faye, Ian, and Briff are all extremely lovable and the way they're written is ridiculously fun. The battle system is simple enough on its own but what really fleshes it out is the amount of character classes and skills the game gives you. The diversity is great, I found myself switching between classes from the start of the game all the way to the end, adjusting my character's loadouts along with new mods I gathered. The game encourages you to explore with incentives in the form of battles with some really cool extra-challenging bosses. Speaking of challenge, the game stays at a reasonable difficulty all the way through, with each new enemy giving you trouble in unique ways.

If I had one gripe with this game it would be that the dungeon layouts are needlessly confusing. This is partially because I'm shit with directions but I found myself getting mixed up in areas like the Tonewood Forest and Mutilla's Base because of the amount of routes that branched into themselves.

But still, incredibly solid RPG all the way through, I want to be besties with Platinum Scrumptious.

Frankly just an adorably fun game. I backed this on Kickstarted back in 2019 and I was worried that here, 4 years later, I might not still be into the humor. I'm pleased to say that the game was fun, quirky, and a joy to play.

I've seen some people say that the combat got repetitive, and I can understand that. I started to avoid fighting mobs by the last few stages, but the boss fights never ceased to be a fun time. Even the when I accidentally built myself a hardmode boss (you know him if you've played) I had a blast. The system is simple to learn, and easy to feel like you've caught the hang of. There's plenty of options to change up you style too, if you happen to feel like the game is getting a little too one note for you.

I played a couple hours a day to wind down after work, and I finished it in about a week. Seriously, just a blast of a game, I heavily recommend checking it out.

I've played a lot of indie JRPGs, and didn't really liked most of them, because they were short in a way that also made them shallow.

Deathbulge is the best quirky, little JRPG that I played on PC. I can't rank it 5 stars because the game lacks some quality of life features (the most egregious one being the ability to keep saves and autosaves apart - the game autosaves all the time and you can totally find yourself stuck in a bad situation).

Apart from that, Deathbulge is beautifuly designed. I liked both the cities, and all the dungeons in this game. The enemy variety is good. Combat system is good. The story feels adequate, not an epic cut short, but a medium sized adventure that doesnt overstay its welcome.

The game plays like Mario RPGs do, but the combat is more in line with something like "Battlechasers Nightwar" or "Grandia". The fights are fun, and the upgrade systems are fine too.

The big thing this game have going on is its animation and music. Just stellar stuff, with lots of extra, unnecessary detail. Characters have a bunch of portraits, a bunch of animations, backgrounds are varied, the world feels lived in.

I really hope that a lot of people find their ways to this game. It deserves to be called a hidden gem by dozens of YouTubers on the years to come.
