Digimon World DS, known in Japan as Digimon Story (デジモンストーリー Dejimon Sutōrī?), is a role-playing video game and the first Digimon game for the Nintendo DS. It is not part of the Digimon World series, as suggested by its localized title, but the game does bears a resemblance to Digimon World 3. In the game, the player assumes the role of a Digimon tamer and embarks on a journey to discover, tame, raise, train and command more than 230 unique Digimon. The player can build Digi-Farms to raise, evolve and communicate with the Digimon. Using Wi-Fi and local DS wireless connection, players can interact by exchanging Digimon, engaging in battles, and pooling resources to create rare types of Digimon. To date, the game has spawned four sequels in Digimon World Dawn and Dusk, Digimon Story Lost Evolution, Digimon Story: Super Xros Wars Red and Blue, and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth.

This is a game that tries to compete with Pokemon and unfortunately slips up in its execution. I found the story to not be very engaging, the exploration and dungeon crawling to be monotonous and confusing, and while the number of Digimon was nice, there were some glaring omissions to the roster. in general, this just felt like an incomplete game, which makes sense since the sequel games, Dawn & Dusk, came out less than a year later. This game is at the very least a good starting point, but you'd be better off playing Dawn & Dusk or any of the other Digimon games for this console.

Seadramon my beloved
Andromon my MVP

I'm nostalgic to this game. If anything I'd say it's fairly mediocre as far as DS JRPGs go.

Como todo digimon story de DS esse jogo tem problemas sérios em ser labirintico pruma porra, ter um numero excessivo de encounters, não ser tão desafiador, mas necessitar de muito grind, mas mesmo assim eu amo ele.

Along with Dinosaur King, Digimon was another Pokemon knockoff franchise game that I enjoyed in my youth without playing any actual Pokemon games. Digimon is underrated as a franchise. I really like the digimons and their designs, and I remember really enjoying this game and its pixel-y style as a kid. I loved exploring the world, growing and evolving my digimons, feeling the pet-like connection with them as these Pokemon-esque franchises excel at, and fighting the strongest digimon near the endgame of the story. A very satisfying game for the young version of me.

I've always loved the Digimon anime as a kid but never actually played the games. I figured why not one day when I got tired of playing Pokemon.

Digimon World DS is surprising alright. The story is... well what you'd expect of a children's game but the gameplay is solid. Building and customizing your digimon through digivolving and de-digivolving is so much more satisfying than raising pokemon.

The encounter rate can be brutal though, especially if you get lost in some of the maps.
