Dungeon Explorer II

released on Mar 26, 1993

This CD sequel to Dungeon Explorer plays exactly the same as the first game. You chose your character from a variety of fantasy stereotypes and set forth in a Gauntlet-esque adventure. The CD format allows a greater quantity and variety of levels to compliment the storyline, with new areas and characters becoming open to you as you progress.

A vast improvement over the original. The difficulty is way more balanced due to the level design being more fair, characters can be changed in towns and there are even some optional areas exclusive to certain ones, the bosses have a lot more effort put into them and offer more engagement than just hoping their projectile spam doesn't hit you, the cutscenes are beautiful and the CD soundtrack is killer. Undoubtedly a highlight of the Turbo CD's library.

they added lots of stuff on top of the original but it still plays about the same, which would be great if the design was as tight. being able to swap characters without losing progress is much appreciated. the voiced cutscenes are pretty bad but the CD music makes it worth it. recommended if you liked the original, though it's not as good
