It's a sizeable upgrade over the original and a fairly enjoyable space shooter. I wish this was ported to modern platforms with difficulty-mitigating options (like checkpoints or save points).

What a fun rail-shooter this is.

Following classic rules and a few addendums based on in game circumstances, what we've got here is a more structured version of Galaga that actually has an end point and multiple paths to take to reach it.

I mean, I say paths, but said paths only change the main enemy type, and you can only ascend the path latter with no ability to go back. So, you'd have to chose wisely on when you'd like to trade out fire-work insects for something less forgiving.

If you're having a tough time with the main game and its rather restrictive power-up system (you only get one normally, and it's just an instant tier-3 ship near the end of the game), you can always activate training mode, which... doesn't feel like a training mode, as enemies are far more aggressive and each stage awards player performance with a power up. Never the less, it's a fun time and makes the game feel that much more frantic.

I honestly recommend this game to any shooter fan. What more can I really say?

It's a shame I keep neglecting the Turbo as I have been, maybe if it had some more western mediocrity on it like the Jaguar did I would've played more of it's library I guess. I might legit try to rectify that soon.

Despite the title, this is actually a port of Galaga '88. Just a bit of localization tinkering with the release year, imagine if King of Fighters had done this. Man, it would've been so goddamn funny.

I try not to call games an "upgrade" too much, because it feels like it degrades the predecessor, but '88 is an incredibly fun glow up with newfangled modern features like stage bosses, VERTICAL SCROLLING, and bugs that can tango! The most adorable little squadron you ever did see. Little guys over here doin' a jig before they resume their attempt at capping your ass, or slamming their face into you. My favorite kind of goofy rogues gallery. It's a shame I can't really join in, and can only murder them indiscriminately as they're going about their business. Would you date a Galaga bug? I would.

Was actually recommended the Turbo port by a friend! Was a very good one! The only thing I miss are the bugs presumably calling you derogatory names. Otherwise it's spot on. Been needing these tiny games recently due to my schedule, to hell with 100+ hour slogs, gimme these arcade games I can play off and on forever and ever.

Giant Maps? Meh.
500 Sidequests? Ugh.
Dancing bugs? Powerful. Timeless.
