I was completly dumfounded on how well it looks and runs on original hardware, and that was before I looked at the year. I thought for sure this would have been a modern homebrew, not one of the last "real" releases for the console.

Extremely impressive, and genuinely a better game than a large swath of indie Wolf3D clones from the past decade and a half. Hell, Its better than most clones of that era!
