I Wanna Lockpick

released on Feb 14, 2024

I Wanna Lockpick tells the strange story of a girl's trip to an abstract world made of keys and doors. Or, well, I'd like it to, but really the keys and doors are the main focus here. It's a puzzle game! Assume the role of the reserved protagonist, Lily, and traverse many different abstract (and maybe beautiful?) landscapes, solving puzzles along the way. The main concept of the game is to bring colored keys to doors of the matching color, however new mechanics are introduced in each new world, with each getting progressively more unhinged and terrifying than the last.

Placeholder Review until I finish the game (that's not going to be anytime soon lol )

This is one of my favorite puzzle games. The sheer creativity of mechanics and twists on the lock and key puzzling is incredible . I'm especially enjoying how cheeky, convoluted and cursed the level design is.

I love the focus on untangling mazes of dependencies and simplifying overwhelming possibilities, that's a style of puzzle solving that I particularly enjoy.

Shoutout to the ingame note+screen marking tools, it's the best implentation of this sort of thing i've seen.

Absolutely brilliant and original with a great difficulty curve while continuing to surprise you for tens of hours. Difficult but fun, I found some of the final regular puzzles to be the best. It’s also a free demo right now, but I would have happily paid more than £15 for the current release alone.

EDIT: Yep, full release delivered. I'm not crazy on the added story and dialogue but the puzzles are NOT lacking. The rabbit hole goes deep and it never feels repetitive. One of the best games I've ever played.

Insanely good puzzle game in fangame setting.
