Icewind Dale II

released on Aug 27, 2002

Black Isle Studios is pleased to bring to you Icewind Dale II, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Icewind Dale, and is set thirty years after the original game. Using the Dungeons & Dragons Third Edition rules, Icewind Dale II continues the classic dungeon crawling experience of the first game, with a horde of new monsters to slay, spells to unleash, and areas to explore in the windswept north of the Forgotten Realms. A grave new threat has arisen in the North, a threat that seeks to seal off the Ten-Towns from the rest of Faerûn in a bitter power struggle. The town of Bremen has fallen, and a vicious horde of goblins, orcs, and bugbears have gathered beneath the mysterious banner of the Chimera and are marching on the port town of Targos. Fearing that they will be overrun, Targos has sent out a call for all able-bodied adventurers, soldiers, and mercenaries to sail north to stand with the town’s defenders against the encroaching horde. You and your companions have answered the call.

Unfortunately, I never played it as far as I would have liked, although I actually quite liked it at first. The soundtrack is fantastic again and graphically it's one of the most beautiful Infinity Engine games. I'll play through it one day, why haven't I done that already? What's wrong with me? :D

Takes a more linear approach and gives you little to no freedom with regards to how you play in comparison to Baldur's Gate, but feels more polished than the first IWD title. Also how the fuck did they get Peter Stormare to do voice work?

Good. Very Good. Approaches great. I always enjoyed the ID series, but they just didn't have that magic that their obvious comparison, Baldur's Gate, had. Still better than 90% of modern RPG's though. We were so spoiled during this time.

Kinda lazy and unoriginal sequel, Dragon's Eye alone almost made me give up on the game, but overall I think it has a good start and some cool battles, it's the last infinity engine game and really pushes the engine with its grand fights & the 3.5E additions like the new dual class system are great and make the combat(mechanics at least) more interesting than the first game imo.

Anyway, it's a game worth playing at least once if you are fan of the IE games.

For whatever reasons, out of all the isometric rpgs I've played, this one is just favourite
