“O sleep, O gentle sleep, Nature's soft nurse, how have I frightened thee.
That thou no more will weigh my eyelids down, And steep my senses in forgetfulness?”

― William Shakespeare

As the name suggests, it is a game depicting the feeling of insomnia, whose plot is revealed through the exquisite and colorful hand-drawn paintings. The game plays out like a theater show in the mind of a dark haired woman, watching her struggle with her conscience, memories, and day to day occurrences, which are preventing her from sleeping.

Her mind is in jumbles, full of colors and excitement, though she wishes to just close her eyes and go to sleep. She cannot, and eventually comes to terms with her own mind, creating something with her mind that releases the thoughts and allows her to sleep for a few hours before the day begins once more.

The game is short and pretty looking, and the achievements are relatively easy to obtain. Definitely a great game to pass the time for a moment. Hopefully after having played this game your mind can go to rest.

Insomnia: Theater in the Head is a short narrative adventure game about a woman wrestling with her restless mind. Similar to games like Florence and Flash games of the early Internet, Insomnia tasks players with solving simple puzzles to resolve various states of mental fog keeping our protagonist awake. From chained up memories you must untangle to a Rube Goldberg machine that you must successfully finish, there are a lot of cute ideas poured into this game completable in under an hour. The art is amazing and only improves the more you see of it, and the dialogue that supports it walks a tight line, but manages to stick the landing with a script that is relatable to a general audience without being too preachy or tragic. If you like playing within a world for byte-sized games, Insomnia should be your next pickup.
