I remember this being a strange pokemon-esque rip-off back when that was all the rage. the creators had intended for this I.P. to be the next big thing with shows, merchandise etc. but it didn't take off. the story is kind of dark for a children's game and the premise has you both capturing monsters and fighting along side them against bosses. the music was very basic and graphical complexity was very poor being on the GBC, i tried to play again recently and it doesn't really hold up at all. There's still some fun to be had here but it's very dated.

I played emulated with speed ups and save states because otherwise this game would be awful, but with that in mind why is a game designed to sell trading cards so good

I played this without any knowledge of the source material but had a fairly good time. A jrpg set in a magical and strange fantasy world.
