Mega Man Battle Network 4: Red Sun

released on Dec 12, 2003

The fourth installment in the Mega Man Battle Network series comes in two versions--Red Sun and Blue Moon--each with different enemies, battle chips, souls, and characters. Once again, you assume the role of Lan as he and his friend, Mega Man.exe, fight to rid the Internet of viruses and other cyberworld enemies. Unlike previous games in the series, Mega Man Battle Network 4 focuses on a tournament system where players encounter a variety of enemies that must be defeated. A new Soul Unison system lets Mega Man transform into his defeated enemies.

Overall it was a pretty good game. Gameplay wise lots of things have improved, navy chips require a minimum skill, fusing with other navy´s feel amazing and you really need to take advantage on those 3 turns.

The story was pretty boring, i felt like i was just playing through some type of tournament with random secondary missions in between the fights, instead of going forward through the narrative.

Overall , i think the 3rd game was quite better

In many ways this feels like a reboot of the Battle Network series, revamping many of the sprite assets and introducing a new trilogy of games.

A flawed experiment with new game+ mechanics make this a tedious entry in the series. To give it its due credit, it did introduce some ideas that later games expanded on to greater effect.

How capcom end making a game worse than BN3 is beyond my capacities

Dark Megaman sounds interesting, wonder what they do with this? (One RPG Later) I’ll look at a window if you need me.

Double Soul is better than grinding for Styles. Too bad both version exclusives and story RNG leave you with only 3 to use. Want more souls and chips? NG+. Completing the game? NG++. Most of the story scenarios are filled with time wasters and contrivances. Limiting the player to a fraction of the ones with unique bosses so they will buy both games and play them thrice is absurd. Not that having them all in one game would be much better because even those scenarios are full of obnoxious padding.
