This game is usually left out of the "best 16-bit sports games" discussion, but it deserves mentioning. The sprite work is well done with good detail on the uniforms and courts. The gameplay is simple but fun and free-flowing.

My only real issue with it is that at the shortest quarter length (3 min), a single game still takes about 20 minutes to play. The game is just not deep enough to justify games taking that long. For me, 10-15 minutes per game is the sweet spot for these more simple retro sports games.

Coach K College Basketball is a good alternative in that it uses the same engine and allows shorter games, though it lacks player names being a college game.

Surprisingly, the isometric view really works for basketball.
