NHL '14 was definitely a step up from '13 in my opinion. Maybe it's the new goalie controls they implemented. Maybe something else. It was just a step up for a change in the NHL series by EA.
There's a sizable number of people who call this the best hockey game of all-time, but that was not my experience. I think it's because EA's foray into the 8th console generation started poorly. Many held onto this entry as the pinnacle of the 7th generation.
Coming back from he newer games, the skating just doesn't feel as good here. The teammate AI also just feels kind of lacking. There are quality of life features and modes I miss from the newer games.

Just because the new NHLs are trash it doesn't mean this game is any good. NHL was good maybe in the 00s
I probably wont ever pop this disc back in, but when I played it, man was it a good time.
Why would anyone use poke checks when you can just body check people into smithereens.
