Pinball

released on Feb 02, 1984

Pinball is a game where the player controls the paddles of a virtual pinball machine. The game has two screens to represent the traditional pinball table and one for a bonus mode. Play begins when the player launches a ball with the plunger from first screen through the top of the screen to the second screen. Play will move to the first screen if the ball falls through the bottom of the top screen and will return to the top screen if the ball is hit back through the space at the top of the first screen. If the ball falls through the hole to the right bottom at the top level, the player will enter a mini-game featuring Mario and Lady. The player controls the paddles on either screen to deflect the ball to keep it from falling off the bottom of the lower screen.

This game “could” be fun if you like pinball in real life. Not me though so I wouldn’t rate this highly. Enjoyed the Mario secret reference though.

1984 in Gaming #4

It's like Pokemon Pinball but so so so much worst. Very bland and forgettable. Still more functional than baseball.

It's pinball alright. Even if the cover art is Mario playing Break Out, this is for sure pinball. One board, two screens, no music. It's fairly straightforward and primitive. After 100,000 points the flippers become invisible.

Other pinball offerings on NES include Pinbot and Highspeed which are brilliant on a technical standpoint. Pinball Quest is ambitious at its best and enduringly painful at its worst. Rollerball has its frills and is probably the logical step up from this Black Box Pinball game.

All that rambling to say there are many options to scratch your pinball itch on the NES depending on what you're in the mood for.

I mean... it's pinball. There's not much to say. If you like pinball you'll probably like this, I will say if you want to play a pinball game there's probably a better one than this. The game holds up fine but there are definitely better ones out there.

Yup, it's pinball. There's only a single board, with 2 screens, and then there's a minigame where you play a Breakout clone, while controlling Mario (or maybe it's Jumpman) while trying to save Lady.

I don't know what the differences between Games A and B are, to be honest.

I do wish this game had more music.

"When I look at the box, this isn't pinball? But then I play the game, and this IS pinball! You SNAKES!"

...

Also this game is insane for making the flippers invisible after 100,000.
