Sakura MMO Extra picks up six months after the harem ending of Sakura MMO 3. The world is saved, Viola has her harem, and all is well. A little too well, as she’s finding herself getting bored. There are no challenging quests available to keep her engaged. At least until Maidie shares her newest business venture, which might be the toughest job the girls take on yet!

Visuals

If you liked the artstyle of any of the other Sakura MMO games, you’ll also like Sakura MMO Extra since it’s done in the same vibrant anime style. It reuses many of the same backgrounds, which makes sense, since we visit the same locations. There are new ones though as the girls go on their next adventure. The character sprites are also exactly the same, with no new characters. Although, everyone does get an additional adorable outfit! But where are Aislinn’s ears and tail?!

I did get the 18+ patch for this one, and it actually worked, so I was treated with some extra special visuals.

Sound Effects + Music

Sakura MMO Extra also uses the same background music from the previous three games. It’s a mix of fantasy inspired music and more generic visual novel music. The tracks fit the tone of this game the least, especially the more adventurous sounding tracks.

There’s still no voice acting at all. Not even little one liners or sighs. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but I find it does take away from the experience a bit, especially since this is based on a game which presumably has sound effects. And the additional sound effects are extremely limited.

Gameplay + Controls

Sakura MMO Extra is a visual novel with very few choices and no additional gameplay. It’s easy to read and get sucked into. Just press Enter and enjoy! You might want to pay attention to your choices or make multiple saves, since there are four possible endings. As far as I can tell, you don’t need to get 100% of the decisions correct for each love interest. As long as you make their critical choices to take you down one of their routes, you’ll get one of the endings. No bad ends here!

Replayability

Being a visual novel, Sakura MMO Exta is replayable, and you should replay it as it has four different endings. There’s one for each of the girls in Viola’s harem plus one surprise! And all achievements are earned automatically during each route, so it should be easy to get all of them if you’ve romanced all four ladies.

Overall

Sakura MMO Extra wasn’t my favorite of the four, but I still had a great time with it. It was nice to reunite with everyone and see what antics they’d get up to now that the world is saved.
