A port of the arcade version of Ichidant-R, also known as Puzzle & Action: Ichidant-R, it is the second game in a trilogy. The game has been exclusively released in Japan across multiple platforms since its original arcade release in 1994. "Ichidant-R pushes the limits of your brain as you hunt for hidden vampires, conduct an orchestra, shoot down UFOs, and much more across 20 wildly varied mini-games that can be enjoyed locally or online! I just had a quick play through of the Arcade mode with my partner and I really enjoyed this mini game compilation, I’d say it’s in the same realm as WarioWare when it comes to game design. For the asking price, and considering that the Sega Ages titles do go on sale from time to time I’d say it’s a worthy value title.

I’ll update the review if I ever give the Japanese language only Mega Drive game a go… I hear it has a RPG-lite mode and a 4-player board game. Probably more likely to play the RPG than anything, just hoping the language barrier isn’t too substantial and the game itself is just a gradual climb in terms of mini game difficulty.

Honestly I had no idea this game existed. Using the same art style as the Bonza Bros. Then giving them a neat mini game arcade aesthetic wasn't something I thought I wanted, but I thought it really worked for them, well, at first. The game honestly as a lot of charm, but much like a buffet, too much of a good thing makes you feel too stuffed and wanting to be done with it.

Ichidant-R has 4 stages total, and has you playing 4 different mini games in order to beat each enemy in a stage. The further the stage, the more enemies there are, till you reach the final boss. The problem with this structure tho is just how long winded it becomes by the 3rd stage. Each mini game requires a certain amount of times to win it, and doing 4 mini games and having to do them at least 5 to 7 times each is insane. It doesn't help that by the end some of these mini games are viciously hard to beat under the time frame. It's also horribly time consuming trying to get down the rules of some of these games when they are explained to you so fast, require some actual thinking, and put a pressure of timing it. What I thought was going to be a proto warioware-estic game really just turned out to be the lesson that Warioware games needed to not exhaust their players from excessive amount of execution and stress.

Perhaps what makes this all worse is that the game didn't need much to change it into a fun ride. There is clearly a want for co-op here, and the mini-games are honestly pretty fun if you only have to do them once or twice, but the game just keeps asking. Instead of thinking how neat it be to play with another player; i kept putting more credits in wishing to just be done with this game. This game gives a solid lesson of less is more, and I'm glad the Warioware games were not like this collection of mini-games.
