I really liked this game! It's sad, and strange, and silly, and funny. It's a lot of different things at different times but it all comes together in a pretty wonderful package.

This is their first open-world Sherlock Holmes title, after getting some experience from their first open-world title The Sinking City.

I really enjoyed my time with this, and overall it's a very well made game. The cases are all interesting, even the side-cases, some of which are very involved and require you to pay close attention to the evidence you find.

Frogwares have added some new mechanics to their detective sim systems that I really appreciated. If you have a piece of evidence "tagged" you can talk to just about any NPC in the game to see if they know anything about that evidence. This ties into the disguise system because certain people won't talk to you (if you're dressed in a suit, then a lower-class worker probably won't give you information that you want).

In practice this is really, really fun. Finding evidence, reading it, switching your disguise and then finding more information from an NPC makes you feel like you're legitimately sleuthing around the city for information. It's the best excuse for making this game more open-world than previous Sherlock adventures. I also can't wait to see how they develop these systems further in whatever their next game is.

There are a few things that detracted from the overall experience for me but I was largely able to look past them as I enjoyed the game a lot:

-The UI is weirdly sized in some places (for example the tagged evidence UI in the upper right corner is MASSIVE)
-The combat doesn't have a lot of depth, and I almost wonder if the game needed it at all. I did like the strategic element of it when trying to arrest all enemies.
-There are some quite strange audio bugs at times. In one case in particular almost every line of dialogue cut off 80% of the way through and then began playing from the top of the line, before moving onto the next line. This one I hope gets fixed, because it does have the potential to detract from a scene.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with this game. The ending REALLY makes me want a direct follow up to see where this younger Sherlock goes next.
