Smoke and Sacrifice

In Smoke and Sacrifice players assume the role of Sachi, a young mother on a quest to discover the fate of her child. The game takes place in a darkly fantastical world where grotesque plant life and animals roam and harsh societal customs rule. Taking cues from modern survival classics, Smoke and Sacrifice evolves the genre with its intensely personal story and complex ecosystem. Creatures forage, mate, breed and prey on one another, creating a living world. Only by taming the game’s wilds can Sachi hope to unravel the mystery at the heart of Smoke and Sacrifice. Depicted in a beautiful, hand-painted style, Smoke and Sacrifice’s storybook visuals disguise its brutal story of motherhood and survival. Sachi doesn’t just have to worry about the game’s antagonists - the entire game world poses a threat. Players can alter the behaviour of plant and animal life, but this may also limit the resources Sachi has to craft items from. The deadly smoke also poses unique challenges throughout the game, altering enemy as well as player behaviour.

First I must admit that I was charmed by the visual art. And the game didn't deceived me in play : there is a solid universe with a perfect associated ambiance. Controls can be a little disappointing at first but nothing that practice cannot managed.

I'm not found of survival crafting based videogame although I played some Fallout. But the story of this one keep me hooked until the end.

Beyond the quest of a mother trying to discovered what happened to her son, it appears that Hope is the true heart of Smoke and Sacrifice's story. It's also about Forgiveness and Redemption. It's not a simple story about Good and Evil. And the end definetely worth the playing time.

There is lot of challenges in Smoke and Sacrifice, mainly in combat.
Some of the biggest common ennemies can nearly one shot Sachi. Even a group of weak ennemies in one on one can be fatal if you are not correctly prepared. Fortunately, you can manage to make ennemies of different species to fight each other.
There is also the spectres, the fog, different kinds of trap...

The meaning of survival take all its sense in the adventure of Sachi since the first minutes. But with patience and tenacity Sachi may be able to face off difficulty.

I played this one for about 45 minutes before I got the vibe that it was going to be a bit too tedious for me. I may or may not pick it back up later.

It's all right as far as survival games obviously inspired by Don't Starve go, but your character moves too slowly and there's far too much of the lame combat for me. It's one of those games where you're constantly refilling the same things as you're constantly using them up, meaning you have to constantly kill the same slimes and the combat just isn't fun enough for that.

Fun game, but has several poor designed or frustrating game mechanics. The story is kinda good, but it lacks a new game+/sandbox mode that you could play after beating the game. I would recommend Don't Starve over this.
