for an apple arcade exclusive, this game really surprised me. i think i sunk in maybe 12+ hours? everything about it is so charming.

This game is quite loved. I can see why. It’s charming, polished and there’s lots you can do. But I don’t think it’s a game for me due to certain design decisions. You start with sneaking at the campsite to find food. You lose health every day and you need to eat enough to survive. You have to go to bed, wake up and you unlock many activities along the way. You can think of golf, fishing, racing, lots of collectibles everywhere and lots of things to buy with your money. Money can be obtained with the food you find or other activities like the ones mentioned. Although you start at the campsite, you soon realise there are more areas. You kind of get a simple open world sandbox type where you have the freedom to do what you want, only with limitations. And this is also the problem. These limitations don’t go well with the freedom you get. It’s annoying having to get up at the same spot every time and having to travel long distances to reach certain spots. Granted, you can buy vehicles and I opened a shortcut before I quit but it’s just not enough. It would have been far better to teleport to the areas you have been to. The game is also extremely grindy, whether it’s money or the tasks you have to do. Even when you’re trying to do the main story of collecting 8 puzzle pieces. I had 2 left and the one that made me quit is having to win a race. In order to win a race, first you need to buy a car. It turns out the car is not fast enough. I’m not sure if I need to buy a more expensive car or need to finetune the one I bought. I went with the latter option. In order to use the garage, I have to help the owner by doing something at the mail office. I go there, they ask me to work for them but before I can I need to have a driver’s licence. And I’m not sure if all of this will get me a better car to win the race! Let’s say I decide to get a more expensive car, that’s still grinding quite a while to get it and you’re still not sure it’s going to be enough. You get the gist. There are also challenges like competing with the rabbit or doing some side quests for the fox or ducks. All of it is designed in such a way that it feels like it’s wasting my time and there’s too much of it thrown at me. The game got lots of updates throughout the years. It’s possible that all of it came together in such a way that it made the experience too bloated and grindy.

By now I hope you’ll understand if the game is for you or not. I can see some groups absolutely loving this but it won’t click with everyone.

It’s a cute game with a pretty surprising amount of activities to take part in. The game continues to open and expand with new types of challenges, but I just don’t think this is the kind of thing I see myself putting in the time to “finish.” I can definitely appreciate it though.

That moment I realized I took this humble Sasquatch from his den in the woods and made him put on a suit and drive his sports car to his office job so he can pay rent from his bank account was actually a little affecting, if that was the intent.

But I also made him a professional racecar driver so capitalism is good actually.

It’s a fun sandbox! Some silly controls but stil so fun
