This is a cool proof of concept for what Sonic Rush could look like in 3D, as if the 3DS got a proper boost title in 3D. There are some rough spots for being just a demo, but what's here has potential to be another great Sonic game made by fans. Also more 3D platformers is a good thing, I love this genre but the future of them bar Nintendo and indie games is greatly concerning.

This review is based off the SAGE 2021 build of the game.

While it's just one level, this game is really fun. It's based on Sonic Rush, but it feels more like Unleashed to me, with the move set feeling very similar to that game and the integration of Apotos into the level. You can only play as Sonic as well, so no Blaze the Cat just yet. The tension gauge from Sonic Rush is here and works really well with the trick system, you also gain tension when you get rings, which I'm pretty sure wasn't in the original Rush. The level doesn't take too long, but fits in with Sonic level design where there are often multiple paths to take and rewards skilled play with a faster path which is always great. I occasionally had some issues like where I would be launched into the air suddenly, the camera can sometimes make it hard to homing attack enemies, the quickstep also would turn Sonic and awkwardly alter the direction you steer him in. Overall, if you like both Sonic Rush and the 3D boost style of Sonic games, I recommend you give this game a try, it's only one level, but it's a really fun level. As of the time I'm writing this the project is currently on hiatus, so don't expect a full release anytime soon, but what's here is great and I'm still very much interested to see where this project goes in the future.
