The thing about Speed Kings is while I had fun trying to pull off tricks (Akira slide, baby) and racing on the road, it actually gave me a more harrowing experience than I ever expected.

I've played a couple of motorcycle racing games here and there, like the MX Unleashed and Jet Motos of the world. However, this game's presentation is a lot more realistic than those. As a result, whenever I'd crash into a wall or vehicle, it didn't look fantastical in the slightest. It looked grimy and way too realistic for my taste. And in those split-seconds of waiting for my character to respawn, I instead remember how gruesome real-life motorcycle injuries can be. It didn't lead to a fun time.

This log is by no means a knock on the game itself. I just find it interesting that instead of the game getting to entertain me, it instead made me question the frailty of human life. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to lie on my bed and question my existence while staring at the ceiling.

Budget Road Rash. Considering how little that's been made in gaming, it's heartening then that in Speed Kings' case, it works relatively well.
