Steel Reign
released on Oct 01, 1997
General Storm and his militia are out to take over the world, and it's up to you to stop them. Luckily, you are armed with a battalion of tank prototypes. While there are only three different types to choose from at the beginning, the number of choices will grow to 12 as more tanks are discovered throughout the game.

I'm a simple person with a simple mind. I see tank game, I wanna play tank game.
I rented Steel Reign a decent amount of times from Hollywood Video back in the day, it was one of those games I defaulted to if I couldn't find anything else worth renting. See the tank and the snake on the cover? Pretty cool stuff right? Why wouldn't I be attracted to that cover as a stupid kid? Tanks and snakes are fucking rad.
The tank controls are good and make you feel like you're playing a tank, not much else to complain about aside from switching weapons feeling a bit clumsy but that seemed to plague a lot of games back in this generation. The maps can be a bit annoying to traverse sometimes too, you'll be pausing to look at the map a lot especially during the city-based stages.
I recall a guide on GameFAQs claimed that you could find and unlock the final boss tank on the hidden Mars stage. Well, I'm here to tell you that I wasted probably hours trying to find that tank and the guide is absolutely full of shit. Don't trust everything you see online.
