Sulphur Nimbus: Hel's Elixir

released on Jul 12, 2019

You are Sulphur Nimbus, a hippogriff who gets stuck on a cursed island during a sidequest gone wrong. Collect magical blobs, fight weird monsters, and get lost in the depths of the earth. You'll be able to fly wherever you want, but you're a horsebird so it won't be easy. As you dive deeper into the island's underground caverns, you must learn to manage your momentum with increasing care and precision. Sulphur Nimbus: Hel's Elixir takes inspiration from momentum-based platformers, six-degrees-of-freedom games, action adventures and collectathons.

Once again oddwarg makes an amazing experience
Kinda open worldish game whit flight controls that were fine-tuned to almost perfection
Seriously the way the flight controls were made is really satisfying, even more impressive because this game is built on a whole game engine made from scratch
And as is tradition for oodwarg the bosses in the game are engaging and interesting, while not as intense as eggman hates furries they still manage to be interesting and fun to fight.
The open world elements kind of remind me of sonic frontiers, specially because the flying controls have momentum involved and you can get really fast whit them, and the puzzles/small challenges in this game are better than on frontiers (not a high bar though).
The learning curve is a little painful in the start because while the flying controls are good, on ground and specially on combat they are bad and clunky, but once you get used to it (the mandatory tutorial helps a lot) the game becomes fucking awesome.
The way the story and lore is told is also pretty cute whit pages you collect during the game, and while the graphics arent exactly good it has that same flash game charm eggman hates furries has
Also having to beat the game two times just to understand the story is stupid but I can forgive it because the intention was for it to be imerssive(you are stranded on an island whit a foreigner character)

This is a really interesting game to say the least. The game's bread and butter is it's extremely satisfying and in-depth flight mechanics. While the initial impression with the controls, visual presentation, and longer beginning cutscenes and tutorials may paint a negative first impression of the game, once it lets go of your hand and lets you get a full feel for the controls it really shines. I do have to be realistic with this as while im a sucker for good feeling flight in games other aspects aren't as satisfying. the combat is clunky and a tad bit frustrating and the majority of the game's dialogue is presented to you in a fake language and a translator is only offered after completing the game. So if you want to know what the fuck Melinda is saying to you for the majority of the game you have to play is again. Other then that the story is pretty to the point, i didn't really grow attached to any of the characters (no spoilers) which i do think is heavily related to the fact that you don't know what any of them are saying 90% of the time and things only really get explained around the climax of the game.
Regardless of these issues, for a game that is only a dollar it's something you should absolutely play if you're interested, you may even already own it if you have purchased Itchio's Ukraine bundle.
DO BE WARNED
you cannot screenshare this game on discord, it will crash your whole PC. It's fine to display capture it, just don't share the specific window. Recording the window on OBS will also result in choppy footage, im unsure if OBS can cause a PC crash with it though.
