The Sprucecape Mod

released on Sep 30, 2015

The Sprucecape Mod is a modification for Half-Life 2 Episode 2, featuring elements of classical Half-Life 2 action, exploration, horror and puzzles. In this single-player experience you step in the shoes of John Sprucecape, who is set on a dangerous quest to find his escaping family. The road to them is all but easy and John has to fight and solve his way trough the hazardous environments of Alaska. This mod has updated the original map pack with some new textures, models, locations and combat for a new refreshing experience.

A handful of short, fun and really well-detailed levels with a sprinkle of tasteful ludonarrative design and ambiguity. Are these actually broken bridges you have to jump with this car, or is John just needing to overcome his drunkenness? As an extension of that, are the zombies even zombies, or drunken hallucinations of normal people trying to stop his rampage? Everything is literally falling apart under John's feet, his alcoholism and violence ruining his family's life and the world around him, and I love the music choices as externalisations of a silent character's feelings. Amazing what mods are capable of!

A very cool mapping, the plot is simple, but it has, the ending should have been dramatic, but I personally did not cause emotions, since it does not explain why wife and child ran away from the main character, maybe he beat them and what he went through some difficulties for them can not talk about his redemption, and maybe he's a maniac, so the ending is very strange, and even made me laugh.
