TMNT: Mutant Melee is a frantic, party-style fighter featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and their extended cast of allies and foes. Despite its roster of beloved characters, the gameplay feels repetitive and shallow, with limited strategic depth and clunky controls. While unlocking additional characters and bonus content offers some incentive, TMNT: Mutant Melee's appeal fades quickly, making it more of a brief novelty than a long-term multiplayer classic.
Used to play this on my friend's laptop. It was really fun back then but now replaying it I can see some issues.
For one the adventure or campaign mode missions don't have any cutscenes or anything besides a one-sentence text telling you the context. So, that makes it odd and random as well as very repetitive.
Besides that the fighting just seems to be 3-4 combos you can do, some random weapons in boxes, power-ups, and a signature or a special move. Having played it I felt the gameplay was a bit stale.
Thirdly, it doesn't offer much content, so, I can't help but think that it feels like a cash grab from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fandom.
Lastly, my biggest issue was the spike in difficulty. I was destroyed by the CPU due to its frame-perfect hitbox levels and longer fighting reach in general. I'd understand if this was one of the last levels of the game but me only beating 1/3 of it I felt overwhelmed by just how difficult it might get along the run.
